The only real addition to the story is that this is a lot easier to pull off with other real estate developers than it is to powerful players in Washington, especially after they’ve seen the swindle a few times. Trump’s inability to get the same results as he’s used to with this approach is basically the story of his presidency so far.

3. New York real estate players really have to be particularly dumb. This IS

a tactic that some famous developers used. Leona Helmsley did it, and Trump has been doing it for decades.

Back in the day - through the early nineties - my family had a company that did construction services in the city. Even way back then, we knew not to have anything to do with the Trumps or the Helmsleys because if you did you were never going to be paid. Its not like it was not widely known. It was in the papers and the tabloids on a regular basis, they did it all the time, and yet there were companies that still did business with them.

And all that information was out there available for any Trump voter that ever lifted a finger to a google search.
