The Fix. Analysis: Trump's latest attack on Mika Brzezinski is dripping with sexism

By Callum Borchers June 29 at 10:13 AM

The hosts of “Morning Joe” on MSNBC criticized President Trump's Twitter habit Thursday — “that's your president of the United States lying to you,” Mika Brzezinski said of one tweet — and then, as if succumbing to involuntary spasms, Trump's thumbs tapped out whatever nasty, sexist thought popped into his head.

For the record, “Morning Joe” enjoyed its highest ratings ever in the second quarter of this year and has increased viewership in nine consecutive quarters.

And the notion that Brzezinski and Scarborough were desperate to hang out with Trump on New Year's Eve but were rebuffed seems dubious, at best. For one thing, the New York Times spotted the co-hosts at Trump's New Year's Eve party at Mar-a-Lago. For another, Scarborough followed the report of their appearance by angrily protesting any suggestion that he and Brzezinski were trying to cozy up to the president-elect. That's not the behavior of someone who wants to be seen as Trump's pal.

Scarborough said at the time that he and Brzezinski went to Mar-a-Lago to pitch an interview and left before the festivities were in full swing. The interview never happened, so we can assume Trump “said no” to the request. But his tweets Thursday suggested that he shot down an attempt to socialize, which does not comport with known history.

The truly jarring thing about the tweets is, of course, the blatantly sexist attack on Brzezinski. The posts followed a consistent pattern: When Trump hits Brzezinski and Scarborough on Twitter, he hits Brzezinski harder, more personally and in a way that seems designed to portray her as insecure (“facelift”) and unintelligent (“low IQ”) — as a side piece who would not be on TV if not for her romantic relationship with Scarborough, to whom she was recently engaged.

In his 1997 book, “The Art of the Comeback,” Trump praised his mother—and indirectly criticized other women in his life. "Part of the problem I've had with women has been in having to compare them to my incredible mother, Mary Trump,” Trump wrote. “My mother is smart as hell."

And we know that Mika is of "low IQ."

She and Joe worked even harder to defeat the Democrats, spreading lies, insults, and bastard insinuations about Hillary on every show. She's insulated and will never pay for the harm she's done millions of Americans, without considering the danger she's put the entire planet in.

And when they've helped get rid of Rump, he will be replaced by a choice of these right-wing extremists. If we had a "Designated Survivor" incident, our new president would still be Charles Koch's choice. That's how many of his agents Rump's cabinet and the Republican congressional leadership are stacked with.

Yes we know Mika and Joe's role in the run-up to election 2016. However that does not mean she "deserves" Trump's despicable personal attack.

But it is a fact that she and Joe Joe did their best to make him cute and funny and endearing throughout 2015/16. Nice to see them come around, though.

FWIW Joe and Mika might pretty credible at turning around other Republicans.

And I might add, pretending she's that vulnerable and easily hurt suggests sexism in itself. This "poor Mika" garbage. She's a tough, cynical victimizer, schmoozing up that orange buffoon to his face and then tearing him down on Joe. He's so clueless he'll never understand why this beautiful woman blows hot and cold on him, or how his current hurt-feelings attack is paying off very nicely for her.

Don't forget to check their ratings for a nice bump.

who question him or disagree with him politically.

That's been his go to tactic for years when a woman disagrees with him politically.

YMMV

They helped elect him. wTF did they think he would be like as president? No amount of the fawning they did over trump during the campaign exempts them from trump's hate. Next week they will be back, drinking the orange kool aid.
