They're going to open up offshore production near shore even more.

Trump said at his press conf.

Oh, dear. I live near the coast. That will help economically. But it was ravage the environment even more. Remember the BP Spill? It all but destroyed the shrimping and fishing industry in some areas, ending forever the way that some people made a living.

The place smells bad, the sand is brown, the tide is foamy with bits of tar from rigs.

Add to that the contribution to global warming (contributed to hurricanes that decimated parts of the Gulf Coast). It's hotter and wetter than when I was a kid. There is no cold weather to speak of.

I may have to move further north, which I was thinking of doing, anyway.

open offices, set up rigs, it's good for the local economy. They hire people, those people rent and buy houses, buy food & other goods & services. So it's tempting to do that.

But it's not the right KIND of business, IMO, because it's yet another industrial business, which harms the environment long term.

La. also had a tourism business. Great hunting & fishing, vacationers Not so much, any more. It's not as attractive as it used to be, the environment is bad, the place is dirty, it's gotten hotter & more humid, more hurricanes and flooding everywhere.

Thanks to then Attorney General Kamala Harris, she sued the US Govt for allowing the oil industry to frack offshore oil wells without first conducting an extensive environmental review.

We have very good environmental laws here and the state encourages renewable energy projects, so there is lots of growth in that field. My area has news businesses coming in to develop huge solar and wind farms. In turn, they attract more ancillary businesses that hire and buy locally, and so forth. And best of all, unlike the fossil extraction industry, there's not going to be a problem with pollution.
