The Daily 202You cant get to a House majority without winning over Trump voters, she said. There are some people who definitely want to believe that they can because they still dont know how to deal with Trump voters and are intimidated by the idea of appealing to them.
Third Ways new study is an interesting contribution to the debate thats now raging among elite Democrats about what the partys theory of the case should be going into 2018. It may seem early to some, but this is prime candidate recruitment season. Decisions that will be made in the coming weeks about who the Democratic establishment coalesces behind could make the difference 16 months from now between whether Nancy Pelosi retires, stays on as House minority leader or becomes speaker again.

(36,108 posts)Trump voters, maybe. Trump supporters, no way.
I think there's a big difference between the two
But Godz forbid these lazy politicians from BOTH sides of the aisle should consider appealing to the interests of nonvoters.

They had a good run and their ideas flopped. Time for them to step aside and let somebody else try.

(14,565 posts)His approval rating and confidence regarding handling the economy have really nose dived among Independents in recent months. That's the whole ball game. It really doesn't matter if we retake other Trump voters if those Independents have soured on him.
Last year for all the implosions by Trump and all the debate defeats and everything else, Independents remained loyal to him. It drove me nuts and made no sense but it always kept him in the ball game. The projections of a lopsided Hillary win were always idiotic because they ignored the Independent percentages and relied on Republicans remaining disloyal to their nominee, which was not going to happen.
As always...big picture. Short term overreaction is the worst mode to take. That's Happy Adjuster mindset.
There were several articles in recent days regarding Independents fleeing Trump. Other than logical suspects like Republicans and self-identified conservatives, the only huge block that refuses to budge from Trump is whites who lack a college degree. They still have a net favorable impression of Trump. Consequently every time an article shows up here proclaiming that the white working class aspect was overblown in regard to 2016, the only appropriate response it to laugh at it and mock it. It was not overstated and it's the reason Trump prevailed. People who deny that aspect are the same geniuses who take statewide poll numbers at face value with absolutely no clue regarding the foundational ideology of each state:

(5,954 posts)...might be to do something that will convince the 50% of people who don't bother to vote, because they think there is NO DIFFERENCE between the two parties, that there is a good REASON to come out to vote.
For starters, I think that all states that are controlled by Democratic legislatures should declare election day a statutory holiday. That way, all the people who work that day, and don't have the option of taking the day off, can vote. Do that, and you'll never see a Republican congressman from a blue state again.

I guess both fringes have an interest in painting the situation as dire so as to try to bully or "Shock Doctrine" the majority of the party into doing stupid things.
But they're also both wrong.
If we get even half the bounce that happened in GA-6, Pelosi will be speaker in 2018.
