Kris Kobach wants every U.S. voter’s personal information for Trump’s commission

By Bryan Lowry

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach has asked every state in the nation to provide President Donald Trump’s new voter commission with the names, birthdates and Social Security information for registered voters going back to 2006.

Kobach, a former chairman of the Kansas Republican Party and a candidate for Kansas governor in 2018, serves as vice chairman of Trump’s Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity.

In a June 28 letter, Kobach asked the Connecticut secretary of state’s office to provide it with all publicly available voter roll data, including the full names of all registered voters along with their addresses, dates of birth, the last four digits of their Social Security numbers, voting history and other personal information.

Kobach said in a phone call that he sent similar letters to election officials in every state and that as Kansas’ top election official he will be providing the commission with all of the information for Kansas voters.

All voter records are public. (The SSN part is generally not public, but he worded that carefully.) They can be downloaded bulk as .csv/.xcl files from most of the Secretaries of State official websites. The Parties use them all the time, but so do advertisers, real estate sales, school districts... I can go download them. You can do so.

It would take a low level staffer about three days to get these down and compiled into a single database. It's really not that hard.

But no, Kobach wants it handed to him. By people who are his peers, but he is doing a dominance display by demanding they do work on his orders.

America is over, probably so is the entire human race.

There is no mechanism to reverse a stolen election, republicans cant do anything but harm, we are all in grave danger.

3. I just called the Election Services

office at my state capitol via the Secretary of State. I left a voice mail requesting a call back regarding this issue. I am following up with an email immediately. If you live in Montana - that # is 1-800-884-8683 (VOTE) and the email is: soselections@mt.gov

*update: I got a return phone call from the Elections Services office. They tell me that they in fact do have a request from the DOJ asking for voter ID rolls IF state law permits turning them over. I am told that this policy may vary state to state. Apparently you can purchase the voter list in Montana for $1000. The clerk that I spoke to stated that whoever they are turning the info over to would not have access to "live data". Only the county elections secretaries have that access and can only add or delete data after a multi level log in process. That said, I don't trust that whatever election integrity we have remaining isn't being stolen at this very minute.

Keep your eyes on this people. Less attention to Dump's stupid tweets.

question and I'm glad you brought it to my attention. I just called Allan Miller back at the MT Sec of State's office and left him another message asking that question. He called me back quickly today so I'm hopeful he will return my call tomorrow morning since it is after 5pm here. I will ask what specific personal information is on the voter roll list and keep everybody posted. Good catch.

them getting all the ss numbers is a huge problem just waiting to happen. And when I registered to vote years ago I never was asked for nor gave that number.

But honestly don't remember. It says right on my SS card "Not to be used for identification purposes". If it is on the rolls, however, that's BAD. You have piqued my curiosity about what info is in fact on the voter rolls lists. It might be better than we think or far far worse. I'll get to the bottom of it and report back. It may vary state to state - the clerk I spoke to told me that. It is worth a call to all SOS offices throughout the country.

Came up with this recent article: http://www.denverpost.com/2017/06/29/trump-election-integrity-commission-voter-info-colorado/

Here is something that seems reassuring, but I'm still very skeptical:

Williams told The Denver Post that voter Social Security numbers won’t be provided, because they’re exempt from disclosure under the Colorado Open Records Act.

“We’re not going to give them anything that a journalist, a voter, a party or a candidate can’t get,” Williams said. “We provide it to everybody, because that’s what publicly available information is. You never, in Colorado, are required to convince the government that you have a good purpose before we give you the document.”

More Eisenhower plus a strain of leave me alone and I'll leave you alone.

Colorado has a model open-records act. It does far, far, far more good than harm. It's hard to be corrupt when everything is public and anyone can ask for anything.

There is some suspicious looking stuff in my voting record. Last year I moved and changed my permanent address twice. So they will have three different addresses on my record, all within three months of each other. I'm afraid of being dropped from the roll at this stupid commission's behest.

Your county clerk and recorder is the person with authority over your voter's registration. If you're worried, talk to them. You can usually call; you don't usually have to go in. They want you registered -- that's their job. You have records. You have history. I know it's an imposition and an inconvenience, and I know that's Kobach's goal -- to inconvenience people so much that they give up -- but we have the tools and the people to fight back.

I'm sorry you had to move twice, and let me offer a Jedi hug. You've every right to be scared, but we have the resources to resist. Don't give them what they want, because they want you scared and despondent.
