NYT's Maggie Haberman Chides Scarborough: 'Everybody Finds This Funny Until It's Aimed at Them'

by Josh Feldman | 9:26 pm, June 30th, 2017

Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski are on the receiving end of President Trump‘s ire this week, but New York Times correspondent Maggie Haberman recalled tonight when Scarborough laughed at Trump’s mockery of her colleague Serge Kovaleski.

Kovaleski, you may remember, is the disabled reporter Trump mocked in November 2015, during his presidential campaign.

Most cable news observers are aware that Scarborough and Brzezinski’s feelings about the President have evolved over time. And Haberman pointed out to Anderson Cooper on CNN tonight that Trump, well, has not:

<< “Everyone has a habit with Trump in particular of… trying to act as if he has not been this way the whole time––he has been this way for two years… In fact, I remember back to November 2015 when he mocked my colleague Serge Kovaleski, appeared to do it physically over a movement restriction that Serge was born with, and I saw that video aired on Morning Joe. And I don’t think that Joe Scarborough knew that there was a physical impairment at issue, but Joe Scarborough was laughing at that video of Trump mocking somebody. And so I think everybody finds this funny until it’s aimed at them.” >>

And yes, in case you’re wondering, Haberman is correct. Scarborough did indeed laugh about it.

now that is very, very hard for some DUers, which is to hold two different thoughts in our heads.

Yes, what Trump(R) did was disgusting and, most importantly, anti-American because he tried to intimidate and blackmail members of the media.

But AT THE SAME TIME it is also true that those particular members of the media were two of the worst offenders in normalizing and legitimizing a criminal and helping him on his path to the white house. If it were not for Joe and Mika and the great PR they gave to Trump(R) and their legitimizing him specifically FOR his most disgusting actions, one example of which Don has very kindly provided, Trump(R) might very well not be president today.

Maybe it’s because I’m from New York so I’ve been subjected to him for years, but we’ve known about him for a long time.

He went after Rosie O’Donnell for literally months because she did a little impression of him for 30 seconds one day on The View.

have.

They knew exactly what they were dealing with. They liked him and promoted him as long as it served their purposes to do so.

It's also very different just mimicking a media guy, and these tweets that are personal and negative and trailer trash and horrible.

Trump also was not a President at that time.

Of course, it made no difference to ME that he wasn't President yet. I was horrified by all of the trailer trash things that Trump was doing. And Mike did try to stop Scarborough from laughing, so it was apparent that it was considered out of line.

I watched that video, and it's uncomfortable...because Joe mimicks the reporter, too! I sure hope he didn't know the man was disabled.

Even though I did not watch Joe at this time, and love his show now, I do not excuse bad behavior.

And Joe and Mika do need to do a long soul searching for any bullying that they did not stop, but contributed at that time.
