segments of the Government that are responsive to the people.
And that those running the Government care what the majority want.
They seem to believe that we are still have a democratic representative government
and that there are agencies within the federal government that still serve the people.
That might have been true at one time, but it no longer is.
The GOP has learned how to take the government over without a majority voting for them.
Every facility of the government now serves the agenda of Trump, the GOP and the very wealthy they are beholden to.
And what is apparent to us as far as the disaster looming for this country is not apparent to enough voters.
Don't count on them ever waking up.

(5,810 posts)Every time I talk with any optimism that eventually things will come together to rid us of the Orange Menace, he reminds me that they have "taken over" and I should forget about ever having a normal election again. It makes me very sad and distressed but part of me believes it. BTW, he doesn't like it, but just calls it like he sees it.

(33,575 posts)My relatives talk about the Jews in Germany who kept think things would be okay and someone would restrain Hitler.
I think the GOP today is the very definition of the "Good German".

(1,129 posts)Are we sliding down a slippery slope toward tyranny & kleptocracy? Absolutely.....
Should we all just wring our hands, fret, & acquiesce? Absofuckinglutely NOT!!
No matter how bad, violent, fiscally bleak, oppressive, & or cruel things get....
The takeover is not a done deal... far from it!
The more resistance there is ...
the harder it will be for the coup to make progress...
The harder it is for the coup to make progress...
The longer we have to counter their efforts & ultimately prevent their success.

How?
By what mechanism?
Because post Trump coup, I still see Republiscums getting elected.

(33,575 posts)The nomination of Dreiband, an attorney with Jones Day whose partners included White House Counsel Donald McGahn, serves to undermine " fundamental civil rights priorities," the NAACP Legal Defense Fund said in a statement Thursday.

(7,282 posts)Deputy attorney general appoints special counsel to oversee probe of Russian interference in election.
"The Justice Department appointed a special counsel Wednesday to investigate possible coordination between President Trumps associates and Russian officials a clear signal to the White House that federal investigators will aggressively pursue the matter despite the presidents insistence that there was no collusion with the Kremlin."

Don't hold your breath for the DOJ to act like a real Justice Dept.

Read the fucking front page of DU about the DOJ and tell me they are serving the public and not destroying the country.

(27,797 posts)I agree with you!
The federal govt. is now firmly in the control of evil, mean-spirited, money-grubing Republican assholes like tRump, Eddie Munster, the Turtle, & all the other GOP congressional leaders, as well as their billionaire supporters like the Koch brothers, Sheldon Adelson, & the rest of those wealthy sleazebags.
Our only hope is that maybe the Dems can take back the Senate in the 2018 mid-term elections,
(if Drumpf allows those elections to take place)
Meanwhile, we do what we can, with whatever resources we have.

(333 posts)I have known this for quite some time. Waiting and hoping for change will result in ... more of the same. No one is coming to save us. We have a governmental system utterly unworkable in these times. Which now begs the question ... what do we do? I wish I had an answer. I just know that marching, voting and hoping are just not going to be enough.

(2,496 posts)that time and demographics are against them. Young people overwhelmingly supported Bernie, and they despise the homophobic and sexist hate speech they hear from the right. Evangelicals are in decline, and "spiritual but not religious" is growing. The word "socialist" is making a comeback, while "capitalist" is now associated with the corrupted likes of Martin Shkreli, Robert Mercer and Donald Trump. The Greatest Generation, that bastion of white male privilege that voted for Trump, is (god bless them) dying off, and will be gone in another decade.
Why give up now? We're almost home. But the next time we get the presidency and a super majority in congress, we need to use it and not keep inviting the enemy to the table. Concentrate on election and campaign finance reform. And prosecute the crimes of the past administration.

(44,120 posts)I'll continue knocking doors for Democrats.
I'll continue to contact my Republican Senators and try to shame them into putting their constituents' needs over the desires of Mitch McConnell.
Other than that, as poster above said the DOJ and FBI don't appear to have gotten the memo. The investigation goes on.

(14,565 posts)I'll stick with that summary, the same one I've posted in many threads.
As always...big picture. I'll occasionally read threads regarding saving the Affordable Care Act or Trump facing trouble due to Russia, etc., but basically I don't believe any of it, based on the same ideas as the OP. None of the standard rules or remedies or logic apply.
Touting the current "saves" is equivalent to being excited about a favorable poll from Georgia or Alaska. So no kidding Rachel Maddow is gullible again, on a daily basis.

(819 posts)I agree. As much as I'd love to think that Trump will be impeached, it's just not going to happen. Not when they control both chambers of congress. Trump still has support from his base, and who are we kidding... that's never going away. The future looks bleak
