Even for a US state governor with six months left in office and an approval rating of just 15%, it was an unusually bold move.
First, you order a government shutdown that closes all state parks and beaches on the eve of the 4 July holiday weekend.
Then you take a police helicopter to the coast and spend a good chunk of Sunday soaking up the rays with your family on a pristine stretch of sand that thanks to your order you have entirely to yourselves.
However, the New Jersey governor, Chris Christie, was unrepentant. Asked about reports that his his family was staying at the state residence at Island Beach state park while it was closed to the public, Christie first denied he had benefited. I didnt get any sun, he said.

(7,220 posts)There's still a good chance he'll end up somewhere in the corrupt Rump admin eventually. Gawd knows there's plenty of empty positions.
He's guilty as hell over "bridgegate", and between that and this 4th of July stunt, I say he needs to spend some time reflecting on his transgressions on the good people of NJ, while picking up trash on the side of the road (and maybe on that same beach too?). The thought made me much happier than I care to admit.

(6,496 posts)I left NJ on Saturday and saw all the highway signs that said all the state parks were closed. I guess I got lucky with the timing of that vacation.

(5,810 posts)after being caught sunning at beach he closed to the public, that would be a huge miscalculation. This guy showed us who he was during the whole Bridge gate debacle. If he could have been any snarkier, hateful or sarcastic, I don't know how. Maybe he could have shot the bird and stalked off but he was having too much fun being a bully and a blowhard. No wonder he sniffs trump's ass relentlessly since apparently tRump is his hero/role model.
Nope, Christie is on his way out and he'll be damned if he will show any contrition or self awareness. He, like tRump, is a bully, blowhard totally used to throwing his weight around (no pun intended) and there will be no changing for him.
The best we could hope for is that he slink off at the end of his term, go hole up somewhere (a beach house?) and write his memoir. With any luck it will end up at Dollar Tree, right next to Sarah Palin's most recent tome.
