He closes with the following two paragraphs, but all of it is worth reading:
We have as president the closest thing to a nihilist in our history a man who believes in little or nothing, who has the impulse to burn down rather than to build up. When the president eventually faces a genuine crisis, his ignorance and inflammatory instincts will make everything worse.
Republican voters and politicians rallied around Mr. Trump in 2016, believing he was anti-establishment when in fact he was anti-order. He turns out to be an institutional arsonist. It is an irony of American history that the Republican Party, which has historically valued order and institutions, has become the conduit of chaos.

This sentence is from the end of the essay: " Trump) turns out to be an institutional arsonist."

(2,168 posts)If he doesn't get kicked out, or resign, how are we going to get through all 4 year, possibly 8? I think I'd rather be in a coma.

(14,178 posts)"As a result, the president is omnipresent, the subject of endless coast-to-coast conversations among family and friends, never far from our thoughts. As Andrew Sullivan has observed, A free society means being free of those who rule over you to do the things you care about, your passions, your pastimes, your loves to exult in that blessed space where politics doesnt intervene.
Obama ran the government smoothly, ignored the insults, and we wouldn't hear from him for weeks at a time. Even GWB let us alone most of the time, he was vacationing on his ranch as much as he could get away with. Citizens need time to breath, to know that at least for a few days there is nothing new to be concerned about in regards to the federal government.
It is very exhausting. But that is what they want, to tire us out and give up. Its difficult but we have to resist just as hard as he and his minions push their agenda.

(12,882 posts)I was in denial at first, but I now realize this Oval Office Oaf has my "guts" in a knot. I can't NOT follow what's going on every day because I keep hoping for that news flash that says he's GONE from office! Hell, I dread Pence. I'm sad to say tho, that I'd feel much better with him in the White House. His God knows, I DO NOT want a theocracy. But more than that, I DO NOT WANT A MADMAN as President!

(5,730 posts)He isnt likely to be elected, because if anyone could be the opposite of trump, it is pence, bland as white bread.. He is corrupt around the edges too, but ar this point, what's a little perjury compared to sitting off the bomb and destroying the world?
