Cruz plan could be key to unlocking healthcare votes

The fate of of legislation repealing and replacing ObamaCare could hinge on an amendment from Sen. Ted Cruz.

The Texas Republican is pushing for a provision that would allow insurers to sell plans that do not comply with ObamaCare insurance regulations, so long as they also sell plans that comply with those rules. Cruz says giving insurers a path around the regulations should allow them to offer some plans at a lower cost.

It's unclear whether the amendment will be added to the Senate bill, known as the Better Care Reconciliation Act, or even whether it will pass muster under budgetary rules.

But the amendment could be the key to ensuring that the legislation passes both the House and the Senate.

Yeah let's make an unpopular bill shittier than it already is. That's the ticket.

expansion, or the Medicaid cuts proposed. it doesn't indicate if healthcare will be a required mandate, because if it isn't, you can be sure that the premiums for comprehensive coverage will go even higher. It doesn't answer if the subsidy qualification will be the 300% above the poverty level, or back to the ACA's 400% above the poverty level. It doesn't answer pre-existing conditions, or if they can charge more for those with pre-existing conditions, and most important, it doesn't address what happens when people buy these inferior plans under the Cruz amendment, what happens when the policy holders find out they aren't covered for medical services they thought they were covered for, and they cannot afford to pay for them.

I don't think this unlocks any votes

The only thing that will do that is if these so-called moderate republicans, and the freedom caucus republicans agree to compromise

If that happens, there is no doubt in my mind that a good number of the populace will be affected
