Dem challenging Cruz raises $1 million online in two months: report
By Lisa Hagen - 07/05/17 05:15 PM EDT

Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-Texas) raised more than $1 million online in two months for his long-shot bid against Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), according to Politico.

O'Rourke announced in late March that he was challenging Cruz, who is up for reelection in 2018, for his Senate seat. The Texas Democrat reportedly raised $1 million online in April and May.

Second quarter fundraising numbers have yet to be posted on the Federal Election Commission’s website and the filing deadline is July 15. The second quarter includes fundraising numbers from April, May and June, so O'Rourke's numbers will likely be higher.

O'Rourke will face a steep uphill battle in taking on Cruz next year since no Democrat has won statewide office since 1994.

He's the only Democrat who has declared a Senate run in the state, and fellow Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas) has reportedly ruled out a bid.

Cruz hasn’t drawn a primary challenger, with Matthew Dowd, a former strategist for President George W. Bush, declining a Senate run in May. Buzz has also subsided over a potential bid from Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas), who previously floated a potential challenge.

Carnival Cruz was sitting on $7+ million the last time that I looked and will easily raise a ton of money.

Beto is a nice guy but his own chance is the fact that Carnival Cruz is so easy to hate. You want to punch Carnival Cruz in the face and Beto is nice contrast.

I am waiting to see if one of the Castro brothers change their minds and gets into this race. It is hard to predict but 2018 could be a wave election year

IF GOP voter-suppression against Dems is worse than in 2016, and if the ruskies CAN interfere again, then raising all of that money won't matter because Dem votes won't count

I won't allow myself to.

Russia's involvement will be outed, and I think the SC is addressing disenfranchisement.

I've donated and follow on FB. He's working hard and I like him. I hope, for the sake of Texas, he wins! Glad to see him pulling in good numbers now, there will be lots more competition for those donations next year, good that he;s got an early start.
