Was it on the Thom Hartmann Radio Show that gave Bernie an hour each Friday on the "Brunch with Bernie" segment?
It's where I first heard of and from Bernie.
I know he was around before then but I was familiar with him.

(7,809 posts)I forget exactly which one, but it was full of horror stories:
- Congress critters pay homeless people to stand in line for them.
- The complete contempt that rethugs have for Democrats.
- Bernie Sanders working his ass off to get bills and amendments submitted. He was usually ignored.
I couldn't read more than half a chapter at a time because it pissed me off so much.

I didn't want to be right but Klein confirmed it.
A friend sent me Greg Palast's latest and I sent it back to him.

Not sure a Bernie thread made since last June doesn't contain that line at least once. Had to go there!

(15,265 posts)I didnt know a lot about him but found that he was always on the right side of the issues that I cared about. He was very much like Paul Wellstone.

(31,261 posts)The press loved calling him a socialist. I did not agree with that description because he was speaking to things that were important to me and I was very much center-left at that time.

(29,713 posts)I don't remember him ever putting up legislation, but he usually voted with the Democrats. I never watch or listen to Thom Hartman.

(59,503 posts)The first time we hear his name was when we saw Bernie bumper stickers and announcements for his town halls everywhere when we spent a week each summer in Vermont starting in 1990.
Some time around 2005, when CSPAN was my most watched channel, I had the House channel, instead of the Senate channel I liked to watch on as I started to clean the kitchen floor. Bernie came on and was interesting enough that I walked over to actually watch the tv to see who it was.
A long time ago, but now many people I know knew him as mayor.
