Or that he's probably mentally ill, or even most definitely a Russian asset.
It doesn't matter if he's a liar or crook, or if he's breaking all kinds of laws, and spews ridiculous garbage at the drop of a hat.
It doesn't matter if he's hired unqualified people for highly important positions.
It doesn't matter if he's gone into war against important American institutions and cuddles with our enemies only because they have said nice things about him.
It doesn't matter that he would be impeached already if he happened to do the exact same things as a Democrat.
And it doesn't matter that he's on his way to destroying everything good decent and strong about America.
In spite of all of this and more, what will it take for his supporters to realize that he's the worst person ever sit in the Oval Office?
Because I'm damned if I know what makes these people so abundantly blind to his foolishness.

(81,485 posts)And so OBVIOUSLY unfit.
Six months into this nightmare, I am still astonished that 38-39% our citizens STILL approve of the so-called "job" he's doing.
Ideology completely aside, can't people see that he is completely unqualified, by ignorance, by laziness, by temperament, and by complete absence of any sense of ethics or decency, to lead this nation? And can't they see how dangerous it is to have a person like this in the White House?
Mind-boggling. And depressing and anxiety-making.

(23,225 posts)The only thing that matters to them is that he can say the words they love to hear: "Crooked Hillary." "We're gonna build a wall!" "We're gonna repeal Obamacare." "A TOTAL BAN of Moozlims!"
And he can do it to their grade-level.

Of course, those facts make them utterly apoplectic.

(23,225 posts)Let's call it what it is. It was an ACT of WAR against the United States! I think calling it "meddling" plays into Putin's (and the Republicans') hands.
We need to start framing the narrative much more aggressively.
This was not meddling, it was an attack, an act of war.

Pro-trump internet trolls are not just bullies, they are Radical Republican Terrorists!

(11,863 posts)The russian hackers' fingerprints are all over the hacking of a nuclear facility in the US and I think they were implicated in a hacking in a small upstate NY dam last year. They are probing our infrastructure looking for the effective KILL switch. An attack is coming and Trump will facilitate it.
The people must act. We can't wait for the politicians to save us.

(22,035 posts)Look at the chaos, incompetence and stupidity that flows from the Trump White House like Niagara Falls. Every single day there is a new episode from these clowns.
My point is this: given a little more time, Trump will screw things up globally.
He must be stopped.

(17,276 posts)They accepted his campaign promises and made their choice, so now he's their guy no matter what. At least for a lot of them. When one starts looking at it objectively then they have a chance to change their minds. If it hits them personally, say with healthcare, then they may change their minds.
And remember, they have been brainwashed not to believe anything people in the media have to say--not opinions or even factual news. So it's very easy to keep living in denial.

When the cost of food soars because they cheap farm laborers have left for fear of deportation.
When their stores are empty because people have little 'discretionary' money.

When blaming democrats for everything is no longer possible.
Then we may see some awakening. By then we will be in deep shit.

(53,410 posts)the government up they love him. Their wet dream is to destroy the Federal government. He's doing that which scares and worries us which to them is a bonus.
When it hits home for them they'll hate him. When they lose their health care and their loved ones due to pre-existing conditions they'll know he betrayed them. When no jobs are still available. When a natural disaster with the severity of a Katrina happens again and FEMA can't respond and they die because of it they will know he despises them.
They have to experience the karma of their rage-votes which will be the loss of everything our government does for us on a daily and mundane level and see him and his offspring get wealthier while they get poorer they will feel betrayed.

(9,241 posts)We know enough about authoritarian supporters from research, and history, to know it will be very hard to change their minds about the leader they adore.
They are extremely ethnocentric, dividing the world sharply into people in their in-group, and automatically disliking all others. They feel politicians who promote minority rights and immigration discriminate against them. Donald Trump tells them they are right. He is their champion.
They are highly dogmatic. They get their ideas from others in the in-group, especially from their leader, not from evidence and logic. They say there is no evidence that will make them change their minds. Theyre quite comfortable believing alternate facts.
They get great satisfaction from being part of a large movement. Being in a cohesive crowd at rallies thrills them because they silently tell one another, just by being there, that they are powerful and right. They create an echo chamber that reinforces the belief that all the good people think like they do.
They severely limit their sources of information. They get the news that they want to get. This also produces an echo chamber when the news sources they trust are copying each other and relaying Trumps message.
They have highly compartmentalized minds. When an unpleasant truth forces its way into their awareness, they do not try to integrate the other things they believe with it. Instead they put it in a box and isolate it from the rest of their thinking, which proceeds as if the truth never existed.
Put all this together and you get an idea how hard it will be to change their minds about Donald Trump.

(16,104 posts)For R's in congress to repudiate him? Refuse to sign some stuff if they ever get it into his tiny hands.
For his supporters? Nothing. I am at the point now where I believe he could personally come and shoot their entire families to death and his fans would cheer and tell him how great he is while taking selfies with him and the dead relatives.
They would definitely stop supporting him if he wiped of the orange and revealed he was brown or black. That's about it.

(5,730 posts)are very different. Generally, theirs are mean and aggressive...stingy with everyone but their own, and they always jusrify lying to others outside their circle.
We tend to be more good natured, expect the best of people, and we would rather negotiate than fight. However, we can fight hard when we are under attack...sometimes we don't realize it in time...then, we know, we've been had. We are better people,so we look for the best in others. They do just the opposite, but it does give then some advantage.

They have been waiting decades for the perfect conduit for their ignorance and vengeful hate.
What disheartens me more is the snail-pace and seeming helplessness of those with brains and position to better stop the nightmare. I know it takes meticulous detail, time and planning, and we've had some positive resistance. But the damage. Jaysusss, the hideous damage already.
