Apparently she has announced that she will run - according to her sister on FB, who is my friend. She would make a great Governor for Maine!
A bit from a profile on her last year:
Mills was elected as a district attorney in 1980, the first female to hold such a post in New England. She elected to the Maine House in 2002. Colleagues remember her as confident and intelligent lawmaker, and as an efficient multi-tasker who would sit in one committee hearing and follow another on her headphones simultaneously.
She would run up the stairs or down the stairs to weigh in when she thought something would be going south, said Dawn Hill, assistant Senate minority leader who served in the House with Mills.
When the attorney general spot opened up, Mills was elected in 2008 by the Maine legislature. Although the ballot is private, Hill said she won by a handy number with support from Republicans and Independents. While she lost the position two years later when Republicans took over the majority, she was re-elected in 2012.

(1,580 posts)Maine wants OUTSIDER governors these days, not insider Augusta establishment candidates. She is a good person but OLD SCHOOL in a BIG way, and we need NEW BLOOD from the OUTSIDE not just in Maine but in MANY places. She would LOSE the general election in Maine BIGTIME.

(67,782 posts)...(assuming you meant Independent) governors in Maine - Angus King for two terms and James Longley for one term, a total of only 12 years.
Going back to 1883 (134 years) republicans have been Governor for only 49 of those years. Without a strong Democratic candidate Maine is doomed to have another four or eight years of republican Governorship.
Instead of merely saying "we need NEW BLOOD", how about naming someone who might fit that description?

(368 posts)I don't see the state voting for an uncharismatic attorney who's been in politics since Reagan was president. I'm hoping Troy Jackson joins the race. He's a logger from rural northern Maine, the current Senate Minority Leader, and a Bernie superdelegate in a state where Bernie is very popular. His progressive stances will be popular in southern Maine while he'll be able to speak to the more blue collar northern Maine where he'd have hometown advantage.
