U.S. Golf Association executive director Mike Davis told members of the USGAs executive committee that Donald Trump threatened to sue the organization if it moved the 2017 U.S. Womens Open from Trump National Golf Club in Bedminister, N.J., according to a person with direct knowledge of the meeting.

After the Access Hollywood tape surfaced, three U.S. senators -- Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Edward Markey (D-Mass.) and Bob Casey (D-Pa.) -- sent a letter to the USGA asking that the 2017 U.S. Womens Open not be played at Trump National.
The decision that the USGA makes is more consequential than simply the geographic location of a golf tournament, the senators wrote. In declining future association with a brand that degrades women, the USGA and LPGA have an opportunity to make clear to the world, and most especially young Americans, that our nation will not tolerate nor do business with any company that condones or excuses action that constitutes sexual assault.
The USGA declined to move the tournament, which begins Thursday morning at Trump National.
"Let me make it very clear," Davis told reporters in May, "that when we came here, it was all about coming to a great golf course playing the greatest championship in women's golf. The USGA, since its founding in 1894, has never been involved with politics. Our focus is solely on the game of golf. We appreciate that there's some out there that want to make this a political event. We're not. This is a golf event of the United States Golf Association. We're really excited about this."

(8,203 posts)understanding just what this means to women...in fact, it is the women golfers who should be boycotting the event, it should not be too difficult to find a more American golf course they could compete on..
...me watch??? NOPE, dope....I invite you to join me....tada!!!!
my message to the USGA -
Me watch?? NOPE, dopes ....should have changed the venue...your continued "in your face" support of the most vile PERSON, president in our American history, is a clear message you DO NOT respect women...and YES, with your decision it demonstrates your lack of the BIGGER picture - hide behind NOT getting into politics all you want...it AIN 'T politics...it is respect for WOMEN...FOUR..

He won't divest like a public servant - we stop supporting his enterprises.
His loan holders won't tolerate failure, either. If Congress holds onto the justified sanctions, occupying the White House will become even more "intolerable" for him!

(65,168 posts)This is mistake by the USGA, and i'm surprised there aren't players pulling out of the tournament. Maybe the decision is economic, i don't know. But, these are all fairly young women and i would think would have a bad feeling about that creep and the things he said about women.
Perhaps the way to have encouraged the tournament to move would have been to generate the boycott from the players themselves, then no players, no tournament. The USGA would have moved the location in a heartbeat if it meant 40 of the top 50 players in the world weren't showing up.
