certain people, especially those closest to him?

Reveals Trump's insecurity at being snubbed by those he wants to impress. Old money, old names, long held respectability.

The social set he truly aspires to and will never belong. Not even his children will belong - though they try just as hard.

It's the world of old money, old names - and Trump ain't either.

Trump can't impress them so he goes in the opposite direction, telling himself "I'll show them" - but his boorish behavior - all the while merely confirms their opinion of him.

Trump is one of the sickest and saddest cases of social aspirations I have ever witnessed. But maybe that's because it is so public of a display. He needs constant praise because even he doesn't believe he's good enough. That anything he has done is good enough.

One of the reasons he is always saying his children are high quality people - he knows his taint is on them but he can't help himself. He can't stop being the horrible person he is.

I seem to recall him saying the same thing about Ivanka before, by way of a defense and promotion...that she is a high quality person.

They simply don't care about anyone or anything outside their circle of family. Oh, they care what people think but they want to do as they please and get praised for it, not condemned.
