https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/11/us/politics/russia-trump.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=b-lede-package-region®ion=top-news&WT.nav=top-newsWASHINGTON If President Trump emerged from his meeting with President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia last week hoping he had begun to move forward from the controversy over the Kremlins election meddling, as advisers put it, his flight home the next day made clear just how overly optimistic that was.
As Air Force One jetted back from Europe on Saturday, a small cadre of Mr. Trumps advisers huddled in a cabin helping to craft a statement for the presidents eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., to give to The New York Times explaining why he met last summer with a lawyer connected to the Russian government. Participants on the plane and back in the United States debated about how transparent to be in the statement, according to people familiar with the discussions.
Ultimately, the people said, the president signed off on a statement from Donald Trump Jr. for The Times that was so incomplete that it required day after day of follow-up statements, each more revealing than the last. It culminated on Tuesday with a release of emails making clear that Mr. Trumps son believed the Russian lawyer was seeking to meet with him to provide incriminating information about Hillary Clinton as part of Russia and its governments support for Mr. Trump.
The Russia story has become the brier patch from which the president seemingly cannot escape. It dominated his trip to Europe last week and, after he leaves on Wednesday night for a couple of days in France, it may dominate that trip as well. Every time Mr. Trump tries to put the furor behind him, more disclosures thrust it back onto the Washington agenda.

(3,240 posts)Of course Trump can't pursue the Russian story with the goal of getting to the bottom of things. He knows damn well where that would lead.

(82,849 posts)Unsurprisingly, neither does President Trump. Imagine this happening under Obama? No, you can't, and here's why: After the very first "oopsie" disclosure by a high-ranking official (like, oh, say, the National Security Adviser), Obama and his chief of staff would have called everyone in and laid it on the line: "Go back over your disclosure forms, and make sure they're 100% complete. I know a lot of you reviewed this with counsel, but go over them again. No exceptions. If there are any supplements, amendments, or corrections, get them filed within 48 hours. This is your top priority, no excuses. If you have no changes, notify Rahm immediately. Anyone who doesn't either update their filing or tell Rahm there are no changes should make sure their resumes are in order. Got it?"
Instead, the Trump administration has been continually embarrassed, making excuses, and changing stories to fit the new information they have to disclose. This isn't rocket science, but for a President and his staff who don't know jack shit about governing, they're getting repeatedly whapped in the face in a yard full of rakes.

(888 posts)They said first it was about Russia's adoption.
A 2 second search would show you that was Russian reaction to the congressional action.
Which was about seizing Russian mobsters, money in American. Because murder of reporter.
A second excuse was trying to blame the Russians were contacting him.
She said junior was excited to get in touch with her.
A third excuse was trying to get out in front of the 2 early lies, which were going to be exposed.
And basically volunteered that he did a criminal act,
what a bunch of morons
