They're all still doing it. I think those that bought into it a bit but didn't spread that crap themselves might have wised up now. But the ones making a big deal of the emails are still a lost cause. They'll fall for anything.

3. Russia's attack on our election

All along, I've thought that Putin didn't really care who won our election. His goal was to sow discord and chaos into our system and society. Had Secretary Clinton won, her presidency would have been weakened even before she was sworn into office. That Trump won is just a bonus for the Russians since he is so manifestly incompetent. The divisions and animosity that permeate our country weakens our nation and pits our citizens against one another.

All of this plays into Putin's long-term desire to weaken the West allowing him to fill the resulting power vacuum.

Maybe re-frame the argument as rich vs poor...

Make it as simple as possible?

Get rid of the identity politics - this would be a huge start...

A Bernie backer and a Hillary backer are really the same person. When people come along and try and throw that wedge into things, question their motives.

It really is the 99% against the 1% - once more people realize this, maybe we (proverbial "we", I'm Canadian...) can actually join together and accomplish what needs to be done...

ie...

Environmental protections
Fair wages
Equality for all
Justice for all, not just poor people...

I could go on, but don't want to preach to the choir so to speak...

The folks on the alt-left have to stop buying every piece of propaganda fed to them by the likes of Greenwald, Assange, and RT.

Until then, I'm not sure we can really work together.

It's to undermine the functioning of the US government and the role of the US, to undermine faith in elections and the electoral process.

That's clear from what's been said for the last 15 years by Putin. It's clear in what the US intelligence agencies said last winter. People aren't listening because they see only their own importance.

You and me as progressives? Not the goal, no matter how much we consider ourselves to be the center of everything. Unless we are the executive, judiciary, and legislative, and the entire populace.

They've succeeded very well. Congress is in knots. We've managed to make the judiciary hated as long as they aren't in our pockets. The executive can't do squat, even routine stuff, because it's entirely embattled in ways that many only dreamed that conservatives wanted to do to Obama. The populace is completely divided and becoming more polarized. We've said that there's no way to trust any elections--at least not any that we don't win.

Thing is, that's what happened to some extent to the USSR. They assumed it was a CIA conspiracy. It wasn't. A few nudges, and then their own discontents and grievances pulled them apart. Of course, they had to have a scapegoat. Nobody likes admitting they were possibly wrong.
