Trump: 'We're not as bad as Julius and Ethel Rosenberg'

Zeke Miller‏ @ZekeJMiller

.@POTUS to pool: "When they say "treason" -- you know what treason is? That's Julius and Ethel Rosenberg for giving the atomic bomb, okay?"

“The Rosenbergs gave away the atomic bomb, I only gave away Israel’s penetration of ISIS!”

ErinA‏ @AErinalex
Pretty sad the US President doesn't know the difference between treason and espionage.

2. Fair enough Don. The Rosenbergs were convicted of espionage, not treason.

I'm fine with seeing you convicted of espionage.

I would really advise President Trump to shut up, but knowing that he'll disregard all advice, I feel I've done my duty.

4. Rosenbergs: Why does everyone else want war with Russia?

Rosenbergs: Sure, we gave away the atomic bomb, but what about Albert Einstein?!? It's his fault!
Rosenbergs: Giving away the atomic bomb is not a crime.
Rosenbergs: Show me the evidence? Fake News!
Rosenbergs: Everybody would give away the atomic bomb.
Ethel Rosenberg: Julius is a high-quality person.
Stalin: The Rosenbergs are great Americans, they didn't give away the atomic bomb, this is BS!

7. Didn't they give the Soviet Union American secrets

Isn't that exactly what the idiot did to the same country.

Yes, one secret is a lot heavier than the other one, but they were both American secrets.

If the man had an ounce self-awareness, he might have picked another example

8. The illogic of his statement just astounds me.

Forget about the accuracy for a second. The logic that he's using is that if someone committed a crime worse than his, then his crime is not so bad. So, if I kill 3 people, then my crime is not so bad. Look at Hitler.

11. They were convicted of espionage AND (trump should know this) His mentor/friend Roy Cohn
Thu Jul 13, 2017, 06:01 PM

played a part in the prosecution. He was McCarthy's chief counsel:
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/apr/20/roy-cohn-donald-trump-joseph-mccarthy-rosenberg-trial

But it wasn’t always that way for Cohn. There was a time when he was thought bright and powerful. As Senator Joseph McCarthy’s chief counsel, he was a kind of stage director of the major events of the red scare: the trial of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg and the McCarthy hearings. Another man would have let himself be an invisible functionary in those proceedings, but not Cohn. He made himself visible. He wanted to be front and center, even when the press turned on McCarthy’s tirade. He befriended gossip columnists and used the tabloids. Shamelessness was, in fact, Cohn’s defining trait. And it was a shamelessness that Trump picked up and ran with.
