You know, by now a real President

would have gone on national TV live from the Oval Office. He would reassure the American people that there was and is no wrongdoing, that he hasn't and will never collude with the Russians, that he will cooperate with and support all investigations to bring this situation to a close, and will launch his own initiatives to settle this once and for all and get to the business of Making America Great Again.

That's what a real President would do. Unfortunately, we have us a cartoon President.

But if one is guilty as sin, it could backfire spectacularly.

Case in point:

Which category do you think Trump belongs to?

would revoke Kushner's security clearance. Affirm that there is no longer any contact with Manafort. Announce that Junior will never have any official role in the administration.

Nodding yes or shaking now before every sentence. Hey, that would be a pretty good SNL skit.

Lying is like breathing to him, and I'm sure if he felt it would help he would. I think he already has the support of his deplorables, no matter what, and he won't even try to convert those outside the basket (it's fuck them in his mind).

Their strategy, as developed by skilled Russians, is a micro-focus on the voters they need and they can sway. The 3 million less than a majority that can still get them elected (including whatever means and methods of cheating they use).

That's why I think it is a mistake to believe that Trump's tweets are just random brain farts that make him look foolish. They are actually purposeful dog whistles to excite his loyal minions who are the real fools.

An oval office address doesn't control the message you want when your message is bad. Better to have camera-less and microphone-less pressers and then tweet to your loyal audience. I really do think we continue to underestimate the Trump administration and we also need to let go of the hope that Trump somehow cares if people see him as a "real" President. His loyalty is to being called Mr. President, not to the country as a whole or even to his party, and his main goal is to benefit his family and friends financially. His ego will withstand whatever hate of him as long as he is able to say "I'm the President and your not".

Despite Raygun going on teevee and claiming his innocence in Iran-Contra impeachable offences he felt in his heart he wasn't doing anything wrong. And the Congress let him walk away from those crimes, along with the S&L financial crisis and destruction of the Dept. of Education.
