Al Gore Calls For Single-Payer Health Care

Al Gore Calls For Single-Payer Health Care
The former vice president blamed the “morass” surrounding Obamacare passage in 2009 for tanking a cap-and-trade bill that would have curbed pollution.
By Alexander C. Kaufman 07/18/2017 10:16 pm ET

NEW YORK ― Al Gore called for single-payer health care on Tuesday, one day after a revolt by GOP senators dashed Republican hopes of passing a bill to repeal Obamacare.

Speaking at an event to promote his new climate change documentary, the former vice president said health insurance companies have failed to offer cost-effective coverage, even under the Affordable Care Act. A government-run, single-payer system would provide taxpayer-funded basic health care coverage for everyone.

“The private sector has not shown any ability to provide good, affordable health care for all,” Gore told a packed auditorium at Borough of Manhattan Community College. “I believe we ought to have single-payer health care.”

We should all remember that Health Insurance, even a good policy, is not Health Care.

Gore is exactly right, there should no NO profit motive associated with health care.

points like to say. WE JUST DIDN'T ELECT THIS MAN.

Bill Clinton left Al Gore a surplus. That was 17 years ago. Just think what a progressive Democrat like Al Gore could have done for this country almost two decades ago now. Climate change pioneer, Social Security lockbox, and with a surplus left by Bill C., that was only for starters.

We were robbed. Look what we got out of the 3rd party lies -- 9/11 and war in Iraq. NO, the two parties are not the same. Al Gore was savaged by the lies. What a travesty.

Bill left a huge surplus which W and the republican party destroyed of course.

The damned party that's always screaming about deficits....when they are not in power of course.

If Gore wasn't robbed of the presidency by SCOTUS we would be living in a whole new world now.

Poster emulatorloo posted this in Latest News. What a waste of 17 years. What a waste of Bill C's hard-earned surplus. He did the political hard work and cleared debt so that Democrat's tax-and-spend reputation was turned on its head. And for all those efforts, they turned everything back over to the Republicans. For what. Now they want to blame Democrats.

Clip: "It looks like Al Gore wasn't kidding two weeks ago when he let slip his intentions to propose a single-payer health care system for the United States. In a piece about Gore published earlier this week, Ron Brownstein of the Los Angeles Times reports that Gore told him the very same thing--and in considerably more detail. Specifically, Gore told Brownstein that he would unveil his plan early next year, and that the plan would observe three principles: The actual practice of medicine would still be done through the private sector; Americans would have "choices"; and the plan would reduce spending by streamlining bureaucracy. "The system as a whole has reached a point of no return," Gore said. "It is collapsing. It is beyond saving in its current design.""

how much better a country we would have today if Al Gore would have been president.

Its just to depressing for me. Why the people in this country keep electing damn republicans I'll never know.

Trump is a destroyer, just like rayguns, just like W. Even worse actually.

I don't know what this country will be like after Trump and the republicans are done this time but it will massively hurt 99% of us I have no doubt.

Then we can all sit and commiserate about how great it would have been with a President Hillary instead of the swine that now is shitting all over us in the white house.

They keep electing fucking republicans that are destroying this country/world and most of the people in it!

WTF is wrong with them???

I understand the evil right wing republicans motives. Kill the poor and middle class, steal every penny they own and give it to the 1%ers.

But the assholes from the left claim they are for the 99%. Then they help elect a ravenous animal like Trump who cannot wait to throw grandma, grandpa and sick kids into the fire!

single payer. This is their way to get rid of the ACA...don't play into their hands...Katy Tur...asked about it yesterday. We have a chance to stop the GOP here and save millions of lives by saving the ACA...we have no change to get single payer. Gore should be quiet.
