Republican Senate chairman investigating Trump and Russia wont visit the White House anymore

https://thinkprogress.org/richard-burr-keeping-distance-from-trump-1327df95be56

Less than six months ago, Richard Burr was at the White House’s beck and call.

The chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee is distancing himself from the White House — literally.

Asked whether he planned to join President Trump and other Republicans for a health care luncheon at the White House on Wednesday, Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) told Erica Werner of the Associated Press that he wouldn’t do so while the Trump’s campaign Russia ties are under investigation, including in the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Burr told reporters he’ll “make it a habit while this investigation is going on that I don’t go down [to the White House],” according to The Hill.

This represents a major and significant shift for Burr. In February, Burr and House Intelligence Committee Chair Devin Nunes (R-CA) were enlisted by the White House to help tamp down media reports about the Trump’s campaign contacts with Russia, which were already under investigation at the time.

on Twitter. I won't even bother to look for the link since it's a source in great disdain here. But if someone isn't opposed to hearing a little gossip now and then (are you??), it's delicious. It reported that when Nunes fled to the White House that night, it was because he read his name as a legally unmasked American citizen!

...and that makes PERFECT sense. Nunes didn't have his panties in a bunch over tRump*, he was wetting himself because he saw or heard evidence that he may have been captured on tape.

i call his office quite often about health care and tax cuts for the rich, now i will thank him for taking the investigation seriously and urge him to move quickly to rid the country of the curse that is trump.

of course throughout Obama's presidency Burr always put party before country and i don't think there's any reason to believe he has changed. he may however have figured out that trump is not good for party.

Just like Trump did with Comey.

He's wise to stay as far away from the subject of the investigation as possible.

Most interesting. And it could also be that those who suspect he's aware that trump might want to corner him in a one-on-one are probably spot-on.

Virtually all republicans are content to let russia muck around with America's nuclear and power infrastructure, and to screw with our elections. Is one of them actually going to stand up for America? We shall see.

I suspect Warner has been serious, un-accusing, respectful, and fair, and still, look at where the facts have led them. That patriotism has to rub off a little.
