I hate to stereotype, but lets be honest, Randy Bryce looks like a Trump-supporting, blue-collar, make American great again kind of guy.
Heres the thing, though. Hes not. Not even close. In fact, Bryce is running for congress. His opponent? Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.
While I think that alone should be enough to immediately get him elected, hes still got an uphill battle for election:

(31,109 posts)Koch etal do this because it has been proven money will make people do stupid things, like vote for a politician who stays up nights figuring out how to take your medicare and SS from you.

(53,061 posts)Fact is that Koch brothers spent a $ 100 million to get anybody but Trump elected and failed but here is the reason that they will not spend even $ 10 million to save Paul Ryan;
If the Koch brothers have to spend a dime to save Paul Ryan it means that there are 60 other seats that they will have to spend tens of millions on. If the Republicans have to spend money to save Ryan then it is like the Titanic taking one water, its going to be little, too late and the ship is going to go down.

(6,377 posts)If Ryan lost his seat. Thrilled, yes. But this is a seat he won by 35% last year. He's practically cemented in there.

(13,869 posts)i believe I have read that this is one of the safest GOP seats in the country. Sounds like wishful thinking.

(11,175 posts)In 2012, Romney, even with local hero Ryan on his ticket, beat Obama in the district by only four percentage points. In 2016, Trump's margin over Clinton was ten points, but that didn't represent a GOP surge; Trump, like Romney, got 52% of the vote. The difference was that Clinton fell several points short of Obama's share of the vote. I'll hazard a guess that the 2016 result reflected Clinton's negatives in the eyes of many voters.
To hope for a Democratic wave in 2018 is optimistic but not pure fantasy. If the wave materializes, a strong Democratic candidate could take this one.

(5,707 posts)We just lost 4 special elections in the house, that we were supposed to win.
Setting ourselves up for an unrealistic expectation of taking Ryan's seat, just makes us look foolish.

(3,166 posts)We weren't "supposed" to win in ANY of those special elections. They were all heavily Republican districts.

(24,653 posts)For one thing, these were vacancies due to appointments and those appointments were made, in part, because they were felt to be Republican-safe districts. How can anyone ignore that salient point? Thinking Dems were supposed to win those seats was wishful thinking. They were all uphill battles. If anything, the Republicans are shitting bricks at how close they came to losing those supposedly safe seats.

(9,823 posts)spend all of their money on political campaigns. Then they wouldn't have any more money to invest on those mammoth chicken growing operations that they are funding in my rural Georgia community. It stinks to high heaven around here these days because of the (cock) Koch brothers "food" enterprises.

(2,120 posts)I just googled Randy Bryce and had to click on
five different links and watch his commercial three
times before I found something that told me that
he was a Democrat.

(36,107 posts)I had to wade through a few links before I found a bio statement that he's chair of a local Democratic party
How interesting!
Out here in the wild, wild west campaign signs NEVER state party affiliation. Haven't for years. I didn't realize that was happening in the midwest!

(94,520 posts)1. Bryce is NOT running against Ryan. Right now he's running against other Democrats for the nomination. Maybe he'll appeal to the D voters, maybe he won't.
2. Think what you will about gerrymandering, but his district is SAFE R and isn't going to be redrawn before the 2018 election.
3. His COH is $11.1 million. Long way to go to match that.
