Even if she didn’t speak English, Trump’s choice of an interpreter for the evening was a Japanese one. So either way, they could’ve had a conversation. I think he’s saying that as an excuse for his getting up and moving over to Putin. And...I don't believe Mrs. Abe would ever be so rude to the pres of US.
