When the bar is so low that just about anything would be better than what we have now, calling your platform the "Better Deal" is not such a great idea.
The DNC needs to get some really good messaging people on board and focus on what Americans are worried about:
Healthcare for ALL. Not affordable. Not Health Insurance, HEALTH CARE FOR ALL. This can be achieved with different solutions, but the best solutions include Medicare for All or a Public Option and reducing the costs of prescription medicines.
Universal Livable Wage. Not a minimum wage, but a LIVABLE WAGE.
Education for ALL. A focus on improving public education from K through College available to EVERYONE. Make Community Colleges free. Make state school tuition free.
Apollo Program Level Investment into RENEWABLES. Get us off FOSSIL FUELS and make a plan to get America on 100% renewables. The technology is available, it is really a matter of $. And if we allow our planet to become even marginally less habitable, we will have a human crisis on our hands. Defense level spending for our Energy Infrastructure is needed and this is indeed a National Security issue.
Tax Reform - How do you pay for all of the above without breaking the bank? Remove the caps on FICA and Return to a 50% level tax for the highest incomes. We need to wage war on WEALTHFARE in this country.
We don't need a Better Deal... we need a REAL DEAL.

(9,895 posts)The time to invest in the future of the nation has long since been overshot. The defense budget should be reapportioned to cut nearly 75% of our overseas bases and deployments in favor of domestic engineering initiatives and infrastructure improvements. Convert the current Empire USA military into a fortress USA civilian works corp and we can have 21st century airports, bridges, railways and we can have them in under a decade.
What we lack is the imagination and courage to build ourselves up and be that beacon of hope, that shining city on the hill that everyone wants to PRETEND we are but no one wishes to INVEST to become it.
A major messaging note to Democratic Party leaders....STOP calling or referring to ANYTHING as a "program" or "spending"....these are "initiatives" and "investments", period. Quit letting the GOP and right wing noise machines define the debate terms. We, as Democrats, are not interested in wealth realignment, we are interested in rural quality of life initiatives. We are not interested in after-school programs, we are interested in end of day educational investments.
Then we need the same message discipline as the liars on the right have mastered.
