I can not see any court agreeing with a self pardon either. riversedge Jul 2017 #9

And for the sake of accuracy, Paul did not endorse this, he just said he thinks he could do it. This would be a more political SCOTUS case than Bush v Gore, and I think they would likely side with the Executive.
Everything I know and have read about how the constitution deals with this issue is that it gives impeachment as a remedy, but gives the President wide powers concerning impeachment.
Let's keep in mind that facts, or opinions about what the facts are, should not be ideological. That is the province of FOX News.

It says he can pardon offenses against the United States except in cases of impeachment. Nothing in those words say he can't pardon himself. It COULD have said except in cases of impeachment or in crimes committed by The President himself.

So it seems reasonable to view it as Paul does, it seems no idiots could see it that way.

That doesn't mean Paul thinks that is a good idea.

And Paul may be wrong based on general principles of law understood when the Constitution was written. But no one has shown any document from the time showing self pardons are not allowed.

What matters is that he be removed from office and once he loses the election in 2020 then we can be safe again.

I don't view Pence as much better so I don't see a criminal indictment as much of a solution.

I don't think we can unequivocally say one way or the other because there really isn't a precedent for this that I'm aware of. I could be wrong though.

I believe the courts won't allow it but it seems like everything I thought I knew about what could and couldn't happen has been turned on its head.
