Orrin Hatch floated HRC as a nominee for SCOTUS in 2010. Perhaps she had a lasting influence on him.

On one issue anyway - could be that this is a continuing part of her legacy.

Sen. Orrin Hatch: 'Transgender people are people and deserve the best we can do for them'

In a statement provided to USA TODAY, Hatch elaborated: "I don’t think we should be discriminating against anyone. Transgender people are people, and deserve the best we can do for them. I look forward to getting much more information and clarity from our military leaders about the policy the President tweeted today."

The Utah Indivisible group rallied after Hatch's tweet. Per its Facebook page, it's calling on Utahns to contact Hatch's office to ask him to outright condemn the president's announcement.

How Hillary Clinton Moved Trans Rights Forward:

In June 2010, as the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) notes, Secretary Clinton’s State Department began allowing transgender people to change passport gender markers with a physician’s certification that they had received “appropriate clinical treatment for gender transition.” For the first time, sex reassignment surgery (SRS) was not required to make the correction.

The state of Illinois, on the other hand, still does not allow transgender people to change the gender listed on their birth certificate unless they have had “an operation(s) having the effect of reflecting, enhancing, changing, reassigning or otherwise affecting gender.”

But the new passport policy reportedly helped the Illinois woman—whose name was redacted by the State Department in the Clinton email dump—start a new company and get it certified as a female-owned business (FBE).

If Pence, Ryan, and McConnell get convicted for crimes (we all know they colluded at least) Hatch is next in line I think. Does he really have some redeeming qualities as far as being in the GOP is concerned?

I thought that Democrats, at least here on DU, supported Trans rights and dignity.

Did that change?

it being an endorsement for a freaking run for POTUS.

Seems that being a truly independent thinker gets one in hot water amongst many here.
