Women saved the Affordable Care Act.

Women Senators and the countless women who have been deluging Congress with phone calls and emails. (86% of these contacts were from women according to Cecile Richards.)

At around 1:30 in the morning, after he was sure that he finally had the attention of the Senate clerk and of his nervous, exhausted colleagues who had been watching his every move, John McCain dramatically plunged his outstretched arm downwards, finally sealing the fate of Mitch McConnell's "skinny repeal" bill in a gesture that had all the drama of a WWE heel turn. It was a wild, shocking moment that drew gasps from the gallery, and the only reason it mattered at all is because, from the very beginning of this debacle of an effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act, two women Republican senators—Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska—never gave a fucking inch.

in the Health Care debate in many ways. They've been held out, and yes many have stayed out, of the discussion for far too long.

Repubs will be in trouble if women start exerting their power politically. But I suspect the country will be in far greater shape if they do.

anyone of those republicans, or any Democrats broke ranks it would have passed

It failed by one vote, and trying to lesson the importance of anyone of those people is not factual

I find it ironic that so many threads here want to dis McCain for doing the right thing

They withstood threats, cajoling, insults, and other nonsense, but stood firm. They're still Republicans, and I will probably not like the next things they do, but this time, I'm happy to thank them for their courage and steadfastness.

Perhaps they'd like to consider changing parties and voting with the Democratic Caucus. That'd be great, if they did both things.

And to recruit more female candidates to run for office. Instead of gender being a hindrance, I believe it is an asset in voting circumstances.
