Why are women the unsung heros?

Why does John McCain, a Republican who has only ever stood for Republican values, get the accolades for walking into the healthcare debate and voting no after he voted yes? He has been with the GOP on votes to repeal ACA since the beginning. He is for the GOP and not for the people every dayum time...after all he gave us the idiot Sarah. He is sick, having the best health care and millions in his pocket and for years tried to take that away from us...yet now lauded as a hero. He voted for his legacy, nothing more.

What about Maize Hirono? She is a Democrat that has worked her whole life supporting all Americans. I have posted about this here, yet no interest. Maize left Hawaii after having another surgery. She is now at stage four kidney cancer and left her treatments to come back for the vote. Yet she goes unnoticed as most women do.

I guess only men are our heroes and women are just left to pick up the pieces for the disasters that the menz leave behind. It is like us following behind them on laundry day picking up their soiled clothing to wash.

They are filled with it. Look in the church, corporate world and all across this country, it's everywhere. Even in education. We are talking about generations teaching it and generations learning it. Look at the legal system and culture.

I'm a guy, and seeing what Hillary went through last year really opened my eyes. I thought I could recognize sexism because it was obvious. I couldn't have been more wrong. Nothing she did was ever good enough. She got criticized for things that would never have been an issue for a guy, and the whole thing really opened my eyes.

A couple of weeks ago I went to a business lunch with a bunch of women. There was only one guy at the table (me) and we were all paying our own way. When the male server came around with the check, take one guess who he gave it to??

gave a great speech. Seriously he gave a speech. I added then he voted to bring the 4 bills to the floor and voted to pass 3 different bills. He would have voted to pass this bill only he didn't like the way McConnell brought it to the floor. Some fucking hero. He needlessly stressed out people, afraid they would lose the health care coverage in the middle of their chemo treatment.

However, many people from other countries are surprised and think that America would be more progressive and "practice what we preach"...justice, equality.

It's about religion, power, control, etc. So many men and women are so used to it that they wouldn't even acknowledge sexism is as prevalent as it is even if it him them in the face. I keep hoping younger generations would wake up but they are unwilling or complicit for some reason.

is because he was the swing vote and it was somewhat unexpected.

Not many Democratic men are getting "recognized" for their vote on the subject.

If Maize Hirono decided to vote yes on the the bill then her praises would be sung among conservative circles. It would've been unexpected and decisive thus more likely to leave a mark and make for a good story (again in conservative eyes).

Maize Hirono should be honored for making that arduous and possibly dangerous trip at this time. She made a courageous decision that her responsibility to vote was more important than her own comfort and especially her treatment. I am in awe of her.

McCain getting all the press is typical. He will turn around an vote for a piece of crap if they keep coming up with "replacements." Yet he is being treated as a hero while most people in America have no idea who Maize is.

The priorities and interests of people here seem to be quite different from mine. We are facing the greatest danger we have ever seen, and the Democratic Party must be strong and determined. Political infighting is a waste of time as is bickering because of hurt feelings from the primaries. No one person will save us or light our path, and destroying the Party is nonsense, but that type of discussion seems to permeate this forum.

Maize represents the absolute best of us, and she is pretty much ignored while republicans who vote once in a blue moon the way we want are praised as heroes. Our Democrats are holding steady in the storm, but they are subject to criticism because they don't meet some standard of "purity." Sad state of affairs.

Sorry to rant on your thread, sheshe. I'm just very frustrated and often angry with this place. You are a marvel, always posting the threads on topics that need our attention, but are frequently ignored. Yet you persist.

McCain’s political grandstanding didn’t end with the dramatic, tie-breaking vote, either. After his little performance last night, McCain’s office released a statement calling for the “return to the correct way of legislating and send the bill back to committee, hold hearings, receive input from both sides of aisle, heed the recommendations of nation’s governors, and produce a bill that finally delivers affordable health care for the American people.”

You know what else sends the message you want to “return to the correct way of legislating”? Consistently voting “no” on a motion, which is the only statement from a senator that truly matters, and which McCain did not do on Tuesday. In fact, thanks to his vote in support of this atrocious measure, Congress spent a week playing Russian Roulette with millions of people’s access to healthcare.

I had hoped we would be further along by now, but not so much.

Maize Hirono is a true hero. If we want to laud Republicans, it SHOULD be Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski who stood up first and stood firm. They were threatened and harassed. There was one clown who thought they should be shot in a duel. (Real forward thinkers, those Republican males.)

And a shout out to the Dems who ALL held firm.

Theatrics.
I think Murkowski was the real maverick.
A red state republican in no danger from her state.
Collins a Republican in a blue state would have lost her job probably with a NO vote.
Let's face it,
It was expected dems would hold the line.
Although with Manchin is always a guess.
