Terrorism is first and foremost about the psychological impact you have on the masses. The actual victims who are harmed and are secondary are just a means to that end and a side bonus for them.
If they ever move to more "mundane" targets like rail it will be bad to say the least. A couple months ago I went to NYC via Newark and as I was taking the train into the city it struck me how open a target it was. No security at all, dozen of people just in the one car. One suicide bomb would be havoc. A pair of them, one front and one rear, with some flammable liquid in their packs enough to start a good fire too would trap everyone in the tunnel....

(57,349 posts)Terrorists have targeted trains in other countries so that was always in the back of my mind whenever I travelled by rail. Not something I thought about often but like you said, you look around and it comes to mind.
