Federal judges order changes to Texas congressional map ahead of 2018

AUSTIN, Texas – A new development in the the ongoing Texas redistricting case, Federal judges have invalidated two congressional districts.

In a unanimous decision Tuesday, a three-judge panel in San Antonio ruled that Congressional Districts 27 and 35 violate the Constitution and the federal Voting Rights Act.

They also ordered the Attorney General's office to let them know within three days whether the Texas Legislature would take up redistricting to fix those districts. If not, the state and the plaintiffs will head back to court on Sept. 5.

Democratic Congressman Lloyd Doggett represents district 35, Blake Farenthold represents district 27.
