NYC Solidarity staged a march they didn't have a permit for. There were some arrests. A photographer has been documenting NYC's response. FOX News asked if they could use his photos (with attribution). He had the perfect response:

(22,670 posts)Stop patronizing them. Stop watching them. Shun those you know who do, especially shame those who watch religiously.

Only once denied by an apologetic office manager who said doctor insisted. Yep, told him exactly why I was changing doctors.

The photographer did the right thing, but it will not shame or trouble the entity that is "Fox News".

(14,174 posts)It would be better if they were not to suddenly switch over and condemn Trump. Because they would not only gain credibility with the moderate/right crowd (while losing the smaller demographic of the extreme right), but they could easily pivot to Pence as being the saviour as well as the House and Senate Republicans riding on this new wave of 'credibility'. The longer they ride the Trumptanic the better as it will be that much harder to swim back up to the surface when he finally crashes for good.

(11,935 posts)I do a lot of photography of amateur sporting events and it can be a lot of hard work with very little monetary reward. While it is just a hobby for me, I do know others who are trying to make a living shooting pictures
I would expect that if a well know news outlet or website asked to use my photos that I would be compensated. Just hoping he received adequate payment for his hard work.

(4,033 posts)In the post on KOS, the first photo says "attribution: Getty Images/Drew Angerer", all other photos where tweeted by Keegan Stephan, the photographer talked about in the story. I'm not a lawyer, and not particularly conversant on copyright law, but I suspect that once you tweet out one of your pics, it is pretty much public domain.

(28,208 posts)Mainly, those images are per article and run for duration, but cannot be reapportioned to other posts.
Often, you'll see a website post the same image of a person on multiple posts, this is because they might purchase an unlimited image package, where they buy the rights to use an image for a given period of time, as often as they want. They might buy a package of 20 images, 50, 100, or whatever.
Mind you, they never own the image, just the rights to use it.

(12,816 posts)I'm no expert either, but I do know that artists can go after you if you steal one of their pieces via download or screenshot just because you can, and use it on a blog, a flyer, an ad or commercial venture, etc. Artist acquaintances of mine struggle with this all the time when they post images to galleries, online shops and such, even with copyright watermarks.

It seems to me that paragraph 1 sort of contradicts the last sentence of paragraph 2, but I think we've beaten this horse to death already. I'll let y'all hash it out, maybe in a different OP.
