Hatred Of Women, Fueled By The Presidential Campaign, Is On The Rise

https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/intelligence-report/2017/woman-hatred-fueled-presidential-campaign-rise

Much has been made of the rise in racist and xenophobic rhetoric, anti-Muslim attacks, and anti-Semitic trolling in the wake of Donald Trump’s ascent, and rightly so. But just as Trump’s promises to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, block Muslim immigration, and restore “law and order” have emboldened nativists and racists, so has his history of casual misogyny and alleged sexual assault (“grab them by the pussy”) energized an explicitly sexist element within the noxious “Alt-Right” movement.

--Though he is best known for his white nationalism, Alt-Right personality Richard Spencer has made it clear that women, too, would be marginalized in his fantasy world. During the first presidential debate of 2016, he tweeted that “[w]omen should never be allowed to make foreign policy. It’s not that they’re ‘weak.’ To the contrary, their vindictiveness knows no bounds.” Female citizens of his ideal white “ethno-state,” he told The Washington Post, would stay at home and produce offspring.

And, according to Mother Jones, Spencer dismisses the idea that Trump’s alleged history of forcing himself on women, kissing and groping them without their consent, constitutes sexual assault. Indeed, he seems to endorse rape, writing, “At some part of every woman’s soul, they want to be taken by a strong man.”

Then there’s Stephen K. Bannon, chief White House strategist, who presided over far-right Breitbart News — which he called a “platform for the alt-right” — when it featured headlines like, “Birth Control Makes Women Unattractive and Crazy” and “Would You Rather Your Child Have Feminism or Cancer?” It also carried endless anti-feminist pieces by Alt-Right arch-troll Milo Yiannopoulos, who wrote in August, “In terms of female happiness, women’s liberation was probably a mistake.”

Misogyny, in other words, is making a comeback.

there are women and minorities smarter and more capable than they are. They desperately need these historical discriminatory barriers to make things easier for them. While there are a few minorities like Ben Carson that buy into the right wing BS, most minorities don't fall for the sleaze. Sadly, as a woman, I can't say the same about my fellow women. Many are dependent on men financially and feel they are not in a position to go against their righty husband but so many make an independent choice to go along with the misogynists whether it be under the excuse that "the Bible" says so or their own insecurities not wanting other women to do well or just some other really ignorant reason.

Not that many have wanted to listen. It's "identity politics", doncha know, and therefore not important. Only the "white working class" and their "economic anxiety" is important.

When you add it together they were an important part of the backlash against women. This is why representation matters. It matters a whole lot. The internet is our melded town square and it was built by dudes who don't like us very much.

in the UW's Red Square in Seattle, on January 20, and the same evening that an Antifa protester was shot by a couple of fans of Yiannopoulos. His speech was being given inside to a gathering of the college's Young Republicans.

. . .and posted a plea for reassurance and support on her FB page, asking why her otherwise liberal white male friends have nothing to say about the virulent misogyny of the right wing. In response, a few of them posted public support, but most sent her private messages expressing varying degrees of defensiveness. Happily, she was able to engage in mutually satisfying dialogue with each of them. They feel more enlightened and less defensive, and she feels supported by them.

Arranging the HoF group by replies should quell any debate that feminists have time and time again warned us of this wave; and were just as often, minimized, trivialized and attacked by half-witted males (not ALL men, bless your little hearts) who are unable to accept equality unless they define that equality.
