There is only one thing that "creates jobs" - DEMAND. Businesses don't post new jobs unless they have to. They are only responding to a need. And who creates that need? WE do! The 99%.
When the 99% has more money, we spend more and buy more products. This increases demand.
When the 1% has more money, they keep it or use it to buy more influence. They cut jobs whenever possible to make higher profits. They are job-destroyers.

(6,160 posts)Nick Hanauer:
I can start a business based on a great idea, and initially hire dozens or hundreds of people. But if no one can afford to buy what I have to sell, my business will soon fail and all those jobs will evaporate.
Thats why I can say with confidence that rich people dont create jobs, nor do businesses, large or small. What does lead to more employment is the feedback loop between customers and businesses. And only consumers can set in motion a virtuous cycle that allows companies to survive and thrive and business owners to hire. An ordinary middle-class consumer is far more of a job creator than I ever have been or ever will be.

(19 posts)Tennessee Gal is also very perceptive. Sorry, I miss-spelled Hanauer. I just want to hear some GOP arguments now why we still should not raise taxes on corporations and the mega-wealthy......."the job creators"? I'm listening Speaker Boehner.

(19 posts)NashvilleLefty is right on. I suspect you have watched venture capitalist Nick Hanhauer's speech. It's readily available on the net. Indeed the 1% does destroy jobs because of what Hanhauer points out: the last thing a company wants to do is hire more employees. It's only the supply-demand relationship [the middle class] that makes companies hire more.

(811 posts)It's really simple common sense. And I loved hearing it come straight from the mouth of a 0.1 percenter.
He's absolutely right, it's better for ALL Americans, including the upper-class. And I loved the way he pointed out that historically our nation flourished more when the taxes were higher on the wealthy.

(19 posts)I read it before and read it again. But how do we get Boehner, Cantor, McConnell, Ryan and that little weasel Issa to read it?

(3,059 posts)Are you kidding? The only things those guys read are Ayn Rand's books. And that weasel Ryan just threw her under the bus. Not because she was a bat-shit crazy hypocrite, mind you, but an atheist. I mean, John Galt and all those rugged, independent, freedom-loving industrialists formed a commune for cryin' out loud!!
And BTW,welcome to DU! Isn't it comforting to know there are still people capable of rational thought out there?

It behooves investors to make sure ALL workers are paid well .....
Yet, they refuse to water the flowers, so to speak ...

(116 posts)Nothing disgust me more than to here GOP say you can't raise taxes on job creators. Clinton had the biggest tax increase in history, 23 million jobs were created. Tax cuts for the rich allow them to play with hot money. Higher tax rate would make people invest in their companies.

(1,688 posts)This is like saying the patient is more important to the healthcare sector than the doctor. The truth is we all producers, the union electrician out an about looking for a job is supplying electrical services the same way a cell phone maker is supplying cell phones.
Think of the farmer producing food, now work through the scenario of what happens when nobody buys his food. The farmer will produce just enough to feed his friend and family. This whole idea which saturated this site after the TED talk is just feel good crap. The producer does not need the consumer anymore than the consumer needs the producer. Also the producer can only trade his product only with another person who is offering some kind of service or item i.e another producer
We are all producers and consumers every single one of us, all of us are job creators not just the consumers. Big business included.
