Where are the NRA followers?

Now that police and sheriffs departments will be gearing up with military equipment.
Who do they believe will be confiscating their weapons...
Volvo driving Birkenstock wearing ice mocha sippers?

Where's their "concern" considering the militarization of law enforcement?

1. I've tried that line of argument to different levels of success.

Some people get that militarized police are the perfect tool for going "door to door", but the majority believe the police would never do something like that to "them". Them being rightwing white males.

Since I'm a left leaning gun owner I've trolled the righties by stating that we should give out AK-47s in the ghetto, you know "for a more civil society". It's amazing how fast they then agree with gun control. Or at least it would be amazing if they were not racist fuckwads.

6. Most municipal cops are NRA members. Seriously. Police departments are hiring the wrong people.

You seldom hear about a state trooper, from any state, that is involved in shooting innocent people. it happens, but rarely. Why? because they have much more stringent testing of the applicants. in other words, they weed out those that really, really, really want to be cops so they can feel they have power over others. Cities, towns, and counties around the country, do not use such testing standards. So what they end up with is those guys that want the power of the uniform. Those are the ones that end up abusing that power. Those are the NRA members

is that they don't get a great pool of applicants to choose from in the first place. I went to a community forum on at my local police academy on the same day they were had an event to try to recruit more female officers. I know they do outreach in the black community too, without much success. I dunno. They seem to be trying. I sure wouldn't do that job if I had any choice at all for about 1000 different reasons.

8. My small western PA town had a collective orgasm over this

Recently the town acquired a surplus MRAP for use, presumably, when the neighboring small town threatens to annex us.

The rabidly pro-military residents of the town herald it as an unambiguous Good Thing, perfect for use in hostage situations and gun standoffs.

Well, the cops do indeed roll it out ever chance they get, so I have to suspect that it's a big PR vehicle more than anything else.

Sadly, the proliferation of military hardware among civilian law enforcement will only and obviously lead to escalation, and the NRA zealots assume, as always, that they'll be on the winning side.

10. Why should the gun owners be up in arms?

Pun intended.

The militarization of the police is decades old.

What equipment are the cops getting that has you worried?
