Chronic complainers who have it made

This is painful to see when it's a close family member.
Here's the background:

Retired military (20 years)
Served in Afghanistan as a medic
Family of 5

Currently:

Just got a job change and will be making over $50 per hour.

Draws a monthly military retirement pension.

$500 per year medical insurance for his family of 5...that's it.

Nearly 100 percent disabled status with PTSD (BIG monthly check).

Great deal on a home loan through the VA.

Military will pay for kids college tuition.

.....

He is for some reason angry (even before PTSD) unable to be thankful and is constantly on social media bashing with racial memes, Democrats, the less fortunate, and "socialism". He has a Gadsen (tea party) Flag flying in his front yard. He believes Breitbart and FAUX.

What makes this terrible is he's a close family member and I don't see him changing...ever.
I'm sure I'm not alone.

Remind him that the VA is socialized medicine.

Fact is he was in a shitload if trouble out of high school.
So he joined.

He tells everyone now that he's "earned" all of this because he was willing to "lay his life in the line".
I don't disagree but his original intent to join was to get out of trouble which is now conveniently glossed over.

Some of them qualified for VA benefits and are considered "heroes" even though we all knew why they really joined.

Especially in my age-ethnic group of older white males. Many of them get free care at the VA, are on some form of government subsidy and/or are taking advantage of other government programs even though they are better off than many who need it more. Yet they complain about the government and immigrants (many of whom work harder for less money than most natives here) and cannot see the hypocrisy in their worldview. I blame most of it on RW media, especially Fox, which I believe has been a cancer on our democracy.
