The Political Dilemma on DACA for Trump

All the political alternatives for Trump are bad. He will either further push the Republican Party into a 30%, whites only party or he will fracture his base. There is no other alternative.

Trump will end DACA, but put off the implementation for 6 months, in order for Congress to find a fix. Some of the Republicans will push for a border wall as an amendment to the bill. It cannot pass with a wall payment in it. It can't get 60 votes in the Senate and will be lucky to pass the House, with that amendment.

A clean DACA bill can pass both branches with all the Democrats and some Republican support. If it does, what does Trump do?

If he signs the bill, he fractures his base. After all, what's the difference between signing a bill akin to DACA or letting the original Executive Order stand. It has the same effect.

His base will not stand for his signing this bill.

I cannot envision this strategy ending well for him, politically.

Trump is an idiot.

He has no concept or understanding of the legislative process. McConnell has said as much.

Trump reacts instinctually which is usually not prudent when dealing with serious issues.

His decision regarding DACA demonstrates that he has a very short-term perspective. Otherwise, he'd be able to see the longer-term results of his impulsive choice which you so effectively illustrated, louis c.

As I said, Trump s an idiot.

It solidifies his base, a republican congress isn't going to do much to reinstate it so he doesn't risk signing anything.

He will tout this as a job/college savings measure for US citizens.

Jobs are the key issue in elections and this will be a winner for him.

Thats what I was thinking. If anyone thinks the republican congress is going to send a DACA bill to his desk they are being naive.
