3 Chicago Teens beat 62-year old father of 12 to death. Post video of murder to Facebook.

The heartless thugs jumped Delfino Mora in an alley on the city's North Side last Tuesday morning while he was collecting cans to make extra money for his family, authorities said.

Malik Jones, 16, a member of the ruthless Latin Kings gang, asked Mora what he had in his pockets and then sucker punched him in the jaw, prosecutors said.

--snip--

Video of the savage beating was posted on Jones' Facebook page, where someone who knows one of Mora's sons saw it and reached out to the family.

I don't know what to say. What the hell can you say?

1. You can say try those little fuckers as adults and lock them up for life.

Beyond that, there's nothing to say, save dragging their lousy, punk-ass names through the mud forever and a day. Make them a new synonym for "fucking assholes" and "stupid idiots."

3. Murder-wise, Chicago is having a pretty bad year so far

The homicide rate for the first six months is up by about 38 percent compared with last year. More people in Chicago have been killed so far this year than have American troops in Afghanistan.

Of course, the rates are very different, since Chicago's population is many times greater than the number of troops in Afghanistan.

However, it would be interesting to count the number of Chicago murder victims who were involved in gang life and/or living a criminal lifestyle and compare that with the overall number of gang members/criminals in the city. I imagine that murder rate would be a lot closer to the death rate in Afghanistan. The Afghanistan rate would probably still be higher, but it could very well be pretty close. I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't all that less dangerous to be a gangster in Chicago than an American soldier in Afghanistan.

But it won't be popular in some circles here...

They're culls. The chances of vermin like that ever being rehabilitated to the point of it making the slightest sense to allow them in contact with the general population is minimal. Cull them. As mercifully as humanly possible...but cull them.

I generally object to the death penalty, but that's largely a matter of it being impossible to have a "do over" if the system gets it wrong. In this case, there's apparently incontrovertible evidence of their guilt (and subsequent depraved behavior).

Cull them.

7. I generally agree with what you say.

However, it's nearly impossible to "generally object to the death penalty". Either you oppose it fully, or you don't. As soon as you say that the death penalty is OK for certain circumstances, that props the door opened for abuse. I'd love to have 100% assurance that the DP would only be used in situations where guilt is 100% certain, but I already know that it's been applied to innocent people. As such, I can't support the death penalty at all. Life in prison is cheaper and better for society anyway.

9. I understand your point.

If it were put to the vote where I live, I'd operate by much the same reasoning as you have presented and vote against it. Unless it were possible to codify a perfect system to correctly identify cases such as this one each and every time, and protect that system from abuse by the unscrupulous, I would have to vote that way. Such a perfect system is probably impossible.

However, in individual cases when all I am doing is hypothesizing on what I think the optimal outcome would be, I consider my self free to advocate such things. The perfect world we will never live in can at least be satisfying to dream about.

11. I'm for life in prison, due to so many being wrongly convicted and the cost involved. That said...

these three deserve to be tortured every day in prison, for the rest of their lives. They are inhuman - I won't associate this scum with animals, because they don't have the capacity to be so vile.

But this is why I don't care if we execute minors. Because that's what these murderers deserve. 16 is certainly old enough to understand the consequences of such actions. This is deliberate, first degree murder. It's on video, there is no denying who did it, it's open and shut. Kill them.

to be murderers at such a young age. When they are this far gone, there is nothing you can do but remove them from society immediately and permanently. I don't think you can rehabilitate someone who can murder in cold blood and then make their actions public as though they are proud of what they've done.
