https://www.democraticunderground.com/10029577015She fell, most likely from standing in the heat for over 3 hours and had to go into emergency surgery to stop bleeding inside her cranial walls.
So after 2 days they have taken her off the sedation medication and she is waking up very well. She is still intibated so can't talk but she has looked at me in the eyes and seems to know it is me. She has also been able to follow some commands from the nurse. The doctor thinks she is doing really well.
Thank you all so much for the well wishes, thoughts and prayers.

(22,497 posts)all the family of hospital staff. I have to leave now but in the past couple days, I stayed right here on ICU.
Some of the nurses were bitchy to me but fuck them. My mom's regular nurse is a gem.

(14,920 posts)who passed away last year, so I felt your pain and distress at having something like this happen very personally. I know you have been doing everything possible to help and support her...and then along comes one of the worst hurricanes in history and throws all your best plans off the rails. You are probably already doing this, but even though your mom is not yet responding verbally, keep talking to her as if she can fully understand everything, explaining why she is there and what happened in the most positive and hopeful way possible. She is lucky to have you by her side. We are all pulling for her speedy and full recovery! Lots of good wishes for healing are coming her way.

(4,079 posts)Like so many other DUers I read your post and was horrified by what you and she had to endure. I'm so glad her recovery is going well, and I will continue to send good thoughts to you and all of those in Florida who are suffering now.
Please keep us updated on her recovery. She is lucky to have a strong, supportive daughter by her side.

(47,586 posts)So glad she regained consciousness and is responding. Standing in line for 3 hours in that heat is difficult for anyone, I can't imagine how the elderly handled it.

(22,651 posts)I think I remember your last OP, you mentioned two pets waiting with you in line? How are the pets doing?
Is there anyway the DU community can help "lend a hand" from a distance?
A lot of people effected by the storms/hurricanes are setting up a https://www.gofundme.com/ . Let us know please if you set-up a gofundme page.
I hope your home was ok, your pets are happy, Your Mom feels much better and you have some well deserved rest soon!.

Germain Arena made national news today. Evacuees were leaving and complained about the lines. They stated that several community members collapsed while waiting in the heat.
