If corporations aren't people, then what are they? I'm still trying to figure that one out.
"If corporations are not people, why did we bail out General Motors and Chrysler? Why did Obama care? They're just a bunch of cars, a bunch of evil cars that people shouldn't be driving."
The Supreme Court also said the Obamacare is a tax. Go figure.

See if she laughs at that.
If she does not feel uncomfortable about a faceless corporation being in charge of the USA, then something is wrong with her.

When was the last time a corporation held the door for you?

(52,589 posts)Corporations are artificial created legal entities. The founding fathers did not intend them to be persons as it relates to the Constitution or Bill of Rights. They had restrictions on the length of time of corporate charters.

(18,184 posts)because obviously corporations are (staffed by) people.
But can a corporation do all the things a person can do? And can we do the same things to a corporation that we can do to a person?
JoePhilly
(27,787 posts)By bailing out the Auto Industry, with SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS for doing so, Obama saved the JOB of people who work for that LEGAL ENTITY.
But a corporation is not a person. A PERSON has a first amendment right to free speech, a corporation, which is a LEGAL ENTITY, should not have the same right.
Oh, I've worked for a corporation a number of times in my career, and I can say first hand that it is NOT a person. The corporation does not love its employees. It will fire you, or sell you off as if you were a PHYSICAL ASSET and NOT an actual person.
And the SC is right, its a tax, a tax you can avoid ... much like you can avoid a tax when you get a mortgage and buy a house verses renting for the same amount. See how that works.

People are subject to reporting laws and contribution limitations. If corporations are people, they should be able to give no more than you or I can.

(1,486 posts)The are made up of people that are owners and employees. These people all have a right speak anytime they want but if they want to be heard by more than the people in the break room they have to buy air time or donate to campaigns. They all have just one vote in the elections.
Tell her that if corporations get to buy air time they are giving another voice to the people directing this speech, who already are speaking through spending their own money on political donations.
Ask her if it would be ok to let corporations vote since they are people? And who would the representative be that entered the voting booth? Wouldn't that be a second vote for that person? That is if they can prove citizenship.
As it is now foreign corporations now get a voice in running our country since it is all secret and corporations really have no bounds.

(37,648 posts)If a person wants to do something that might mean it would eat into that person's income, with no monetary benefit, a person can do it for a moral good or whatever reason. But a corporation cannot. That would hurt the purpose of the corporation's existence. Everything a corporation does, even charitable contributions, must go toward helping the corporation earn a profit.
People who work for corporations are merely cogs in a wheel. If any of those people fail to work toward the purpose of the corporation, earning a profit, the corporation will rid itself of that person, even if the person is the CEO.
That is because first and foremost, a corporation must earn a profit in order to just exist.
THAT is the main difference between corporations and people. Corporations have no soul, no beating heart, no brain cells. They are legal entities. Nothing more and nothing less.

they live and they die. Learn the difference.
And Mitt, learn this: we dont run this country for corporations, we run it for people, Warren continued, drawing cheers from the crowd at Boston Symphony Hall.
....
We know where president Obama stands, he stands for working people, she said. Its just as clear where Mitt Romney stands.
There was even a poster of it on DU a while back.
