Puerto Rico is located in the Caribbean, not exactly in the middle of the Atlantic. And yes, Hawaii is much more distant from the mainland, out in the middle of an even bigger ocean. Just ask Jeff Sessions, who figured that the isolated geographical location of the 50th state is an immediate disqualifier for the opinion of a federal judge. To give Sessions slight credit over his clueless boss, at least he would stand a good chance of being able to locate Hawaii on a world map!
