Josh Abbott Band Guitarist Flips Gun Control Stance Following Las Vegas Shooting: 'We Need Gun Contr

Josh Abbott Band guitarist Caleb Keeter took to Twitter on Monday morning (Oct. 2) to share his thoughts on gun control in the wake of the Las Vegas shooting that left more than 50 people dead and 500 injured.

The Texas country group performed at the Route 91 Harvest festival on the Las Vegas Strip on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 1), where hours later an active shooter began firing into the audience from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Keeter, previously a lifelong gun rights advocate, said witnessing the ensuing chaos firsthand caused him to realize how ineffective he and his crew were as the incident unfolded.

"I've been a proponent of the 2nd Amendment my entire life," he wrote. "Until the events of last night. I cannot express how wrong I was. We actually have members of our crew with CHL licenses, and legal firearms on the bus. They were useless."

True, perhaps that he came around, but this "only changing if it affects me" is a common theme FSogol Oct 2017 #4
It's terribly frustrating, I agree. Orrex Oct 2017 #5
Of course. But is this being used as a DISTRACTION from Puerto Rico? Hortensis Oct 2017 #3

I'm not going to beat up on someone who has changed simply because they didn't change on my schedule and for my reasons.

in the selfish right wingers. Think about the recently deported immigrant restaurant owner that wife voted for Trumpy or the person gleefully encouraging the destruction of the ACA until they discover their needed bills wouldn't be covered. In my neighborhood, there is a local GOP bigwig, who wants to cut everything because nation can't afford it, but the minute (one of her) trees falls across the road, she becomes outraged because VDOT didn't rush to remove it. "But this is OUR street, they have to clear OUR street."

One of my ongoing beefs (beeves?) with idiot racist fuckhead Trump supporters is that they reject facts and evidence as reasons to change their view, and they also reject personal tragedy as a catalyst. Nothing will sway them, even knowing that Trump will take away their healthcare and that of their children.

I would love for them to be swayed by rational discourse, but I've seen time & again that it won't happen. Or, if it does happen, it's a statistical anomaly.

So when a gun advocate has a change of heart, I am happy to welcome it, even if it (tragically) takes a massacre to bring them into the light of day.

Now, let's hope that his change of heart is sincere, and that he doesn't revisit his views as soon as the blood is washed away.

Virtually all coverage of Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands has disappeared from TV. Almost all discussion on DU has switched -- like a switch was hit -- from Puerto Rico's huge disaster to Las Vegas.

And now gun control's all over DU. When it comes to "turning" discussion, gun control is, of course, as useful on the left as abortion is on the right.

Happily for Puerto Rico, Trump had already scheduled a visit to Puerto Rico today, in retrospect a bad mistake but they couldn't predict the hugely useful Las Vegas murders. He's now going to cut it short and hustle straight over to Las Vegas, though.

Is restoration of water and power to millions being fast tracked by this administration?
