This argument is framed as an either/or. In other words, if we can't stop these killings completely then why bother?
My follow up is, "what's your ideas for reducing these killings?"
To which many times there are *crickets*.

Might as well start now. Every decade we wait to do anything, puts at least another 100 Million guns on the streets, many in the hands of people like Paddock or the racist/Nazis in Charlottesville. Sooner or later, we are going to have to deal with those guns like Australia did in 1996.
We didn't get here overnight.
