A common RW refrain

Even by some here.

"Tougher laws and regs won't prevent these tragedies from happening".

This argument is framed as an either/or. In other words, if we can't stop these killings completely then why bother?

My follow up is, "what's your ideas for reducing these killings?"
To which many times there are *crickets*.

Because having people shooting blindly up at a tower full of hotel guests several hundred feet away at night would have definitely made what happened in Las Vegas much better.

meaningful results.

Might as well start now. Every decade we wait to do anything, puts at least another 100 Million guns on the streets, many in the hands of people like Paddock or the racist/Nazis in Charlottesville. Sooner or later, we are going to have to deal with those guns like Australia did in 1996.

here think they'd do better with government that would make the Katrina response look good?

Our lives, lifestyles, and wellbeing are all at stake. We have to defeat what has moved far past anything that used to be considered conservativism to become a bizarre right-wing nihilism, clearing the way for what?
