Monmouth University Poll: Murphy leads Guadagno by 14 points

By RYAN HUTCHINS 10/03/2017 03:09 PM EDT

Democratic nominee Phil Murphy leads Republican Kim Guadagno by 14 points in the race for New Jersey governor, according to a Monmouth University Poll released Tuesday.

Murphy has the support of 51 percent of likely voters, while Guadagno has the backing of 37 percent, the poll found. Third-party candidates recorded support of just 2 percent, while another 9 percent of voters said they were undecided.

The margin, while narrower than the 20-plus-point spreads recorded in other recent polls, is still massive and may be insurmountable for Guadagno, said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute.

“This is not the twenty-something point lead that some polls have been showing, but it is still formidable,” Murray said in a statement accompanying the poll results. “While Guadagno may have an opportunity to break through, the fact that Murphy’s support is over 50 percent makes that task very difficult.”

Is winning governor's mansions.

People in New Jersey are sick of Christie. I imagine many people voting Democrat are doing so as a vote for Murphy, and as a vote against Christie.

It has been highly irritating that New Jersey, of all states, has had a Republican governor, particularly one particular Republican governor, for nearly eight years. It would/will be very nice to get that state back in the Democratic column!
