If they're Dems and they're in Red States, odds are gun control legislation polls poorly in those areas.
Some Dems are truly between a rock and a hard place with their constituents versus the issues.
I'm curious... DID they give a list?

This is an issue that unites left and right, so it isn't abkut the voters.

arresting and prosecuting those who are prohibited and caught trying to buy is also neglected, and fixable without legislation.
We have these checks for a reason and these individuals are prohibited for a reason. If someone is trying to buy that shouldn't, law enforcement should get involved. Something like 99% of those blocked by the background check are not charged.
