That was after Sandy Hook. Haven't heard a word about that this time around.
This is effin' madness.
By the way another person died today from the Las Vegas slaughter.

President Obama on Wednesday urged Congress to vote on measures banning the sale of assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines and requiring background checks before any firearm sale, part of an emerging White House response to a massacre last week at a Connecticut elementary school.
The potential gun-control measures, which will be the focus of a working group led by Vice President Biden, mark the most specific proposals to date from Obama to deal with what he called a gun violence epidemic plaguing the United States.
The move pleased gun-control advocates and many Democrats who have been disappointed with Obamas inaction on the issue during his first term, which has included four mass shootings of civilians.
Obama told reporters at the White House that he expected the group, which will feature key Cabinet secretaries, to bring him recommendations in January. He said he intends to discuss the issue in his State of the Union address.

(36,486 posts)The Feinstein AK Mag is a 3D printed magazine for the AK-47 rifle. It was created by Defense Distributed and made public on March 2013. The magazine was created using a Stratasys Dimension SST 3-D printer via the fused deposition modeling (FDM) method.
It is a 30-round 7.62×39 AK-47 magazine. It is named after the anti-gun congresswoman Dianne Feinstein. Cody Wilson (founder of Defense Distributed), said the magazines name is a symbol of whats happening in congress and reflects Defense Distributed's belief the proposed ban on assault weapons by Dianne Feinstein will fail. The original prototype was able to withstand 60 rounds before it began to crack

(884 posts)...and I'm a gun rights guy, just an actually sensible one.
I'm particularly fond of pointing out of late that with magazine capacity limited to 10 rounds, no matter how fast you can swap out a mag (since we know that argument is already queued up), you're still talking about equipping something like a bump fire stock meaning that you're going to be stopping to reload literally every second, because the weapon now fires more rounds per second than it holds, total. Not particularly appealing, when those 100 guys bust through the door, to have to reload after every one, maybe two guys you could engage with a weapon with that high a rate of fire and that low a capacity, before having to reload.
As far as I'm concerned, go right ahead and ban all magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.
I own exactly one gun. A .22lr, for which I own exactly one 10 round magazine.
I'm only going to be shooting targets, or maybe some rodents if that ever becomes necessary.
I don't need more than 10 rounds.
I will, however, remain somewhat perturbed about it being illegal to put my one .22lr with my one 10 round magazine in this stock:
That is, and I am not exaggerating, an assault weapon, as defined by both current NY state law and by the AWB last introduced in Congress.
