Republicans on Capitol Hill fear that Stephen Bannons plan to wage primary challenges against incumbent senators will put their majority at risk in 2018.
Senate GOP aides warn that Bannon, Trumps former chief strategist, is not motivated by a desire to advance President Trumps agenda, but instead by a quest to remake the GOP in his own, nationalist image.
If anyone misunderstands what Steve Bannons goal is, they have to open their eyes. He doesnt care if we win or lose the Senate. He doesnt care about the consequences for the president, said one Senate Republican aide.
Mr. Bannon, it seems clear, does not care about Republicans maintaining their majority in either chamber. Hes putting his former bosss agenda on the line in his quest of take over and destroy the Republican Party, the source added.

(12,448 posts)Trump himself will probably support this; he's too stupid to know the consequences of losing Congress.

(14,167 posts)They clearly have Bannon's number. He is the assist that can help us regain control of the Senate (if not in 2018, in 2020 when Republicans have to defend something like 20 or 21 seats).
He's become sick with presumed power and it will be nice to watch him get what he deserves.

(841 posts)Republicans should be made to own Bannon, the Alt-Right, Alex Jones, Trump and all of the other crazies they have allied with for cynical political gain. No passes for so-called "reasonable" Republicans.

(34,069 posts)made about in advance of November 2016. I remember when people here were cheering Trump on, so certain the if he was the candidate it would be an easy road for the Democratic candidate to the White House. My spouse was in that camp - and everytime she said something about hoping Trump would win the primary I tried to impress on her the real possiblity that he could win the presidency. She even talked about the possiblity of requesting a Republican primary ballot to help ensure he won the primary - and I'm willing to bet there are DU members who did that, thinking it would help us win the White House in the general election.
Guess we haven't learned. Encouraging Bannon's agenda now is like hoping Trump would win the Republican primary.
