Excerpt:
Washington, D.C. Oct. 11 Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders will appear in an exclusive CNN Town Hall Debate on President Donald Trumps efforts to overhaul the nations tax code. Anchor and Chief Washington Correspondent Jake Tapper and Chief Political Correspondent Dana Bash will moderate this live event from Washington on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 9 p.m. ET.
With attempts to repeal and replace Obamacare stalled, Republicans in Congress are now squarely focused on passing President Trumps tax reform plan, and Sen. Cruz and Sen. Sanders will debate the best path forward on this critical issue.
Sanders and Cruz, runners-up for their respective presidential party nominations in 2016, will also field questions from voters around the country at the Town Hall Debate.

(22,919 posts)Plus, sure, Bernie is high profile at the moment. After Hillary, Bill, and the Obamas, probably the highest profile figure currently in the Democratic coalition. Ratings always factor into a media outlets reasoning. There are a host of Democratic leaders who can oppose the Trump tax plan, but not all of them (some, yes) would argue for as bold an alternative proposal as would Bernie. And that, friends, makes for "interesting" TV.

(22,919 posts)Bernie does not have pending alternative legislation, true. Of course the same can be said about Trump's so called "plan" which is mostly just a Republican wet dream at the moment void of a lot of crucial details. And I never said anything about Bernie carrying a Democratic Party plan. Far as I know, there is not one of those agreed upon by Democratic Party leadership either, whether or not Bernie could/should be a spokesperson for that (he is on the Senate leadership team). I could be wrong on the lack of a Democratic plan..

(68,753 posts)wants to raise taxes...be very scared America...you must vote for our plan in order stop socialists like Bernie Sanders...that is the drill...wait for it. Also, Democrats should be involved in a debate not an independent.

(13,243 posts)His policy positions are as far to the left as Ted Kennedys were. Medicare for all was first proposed by Harry Truman in 1949.
The slide to the right IN BOTH PARTIES has confused what these terms mean.

(68,753 posts)No way...but who cares anyway...if he were running for president in 20, I would be concerned that he would be attacked by the GOP as a socialist...already tried to use that with the ACA battle, but he is not so who cares. Whatever he is the people of Vermont like him and that is all that matters.
