"(Kentucky Governor) Bevin cited Colorado...saying there are people overdosing on (marijuana)"

http://www.wkyt.com/content/news/Gov-Bevin-says-he-will-not-allow-recreational-marijuana-to-be-legal-in-KY-450352913.html

Gov. Bevin says he will not allow recreational marijuana to be legal in KY

Governor Matt Bevin is voicing his opposition to recreational marijuana being legalized in Kentucky.

Bevin told WHAS radio personality Terry Miniers on his radio show Tuesday night that as long as he is Governor, he will not allow recreational marijuana to be legalized.

Bevin cited Colorado as an example of what's going wrong, saying there are people overdosing on the drug there.

This comes after a Kentucky state senator said last week he is in favor of legalizing recreational marijuana, and plans to bring it to the legislature for the January session as a way to get Kentucky out of its pension crisis.

So sorry to all KY DU'ers!

People OD on alcohol all the time. A couple thousand people die of it each year. I don't know how many land in the ER and survive with medical intervention. This article says it's millions per year - and has been on the rise.

I was in Kentucky on vacation just over ten years ago and saw more MJ growing wild along the side of a river then I had ever seen. It was clear it wasn't being cultivated at all. The friend I was visiting said it was very common along this river as they use to grow alot in the wild in that area. Not the best place to grow it wild or the best product to be grown wild.

The bluegrass state ain't good with the green buds.

Can You Overdose on Marijuana?
Sunday May 28, 2017
By Morgan Smith

Effects of Marijuana Marijuana Research Helpful Guide

The number of people who have died from a cannabis overdose? Zero.

While most cannabis consumers know that overdosing on marijuana is practically impossible, it’s a common misconception that cannabis is a lethal drug.

You can certainly experience a “bad high” or unwanted symptoms from ingesting too much marijuana, but the chances that you’ll die from it are practically impossible. It all comes down to how the drug interacts with our body.

I think if you define "overdose" as "people who go to the hospital because they think they took too much pot", that's a non-zero amount, and it probably goes up when you legalize. Of course, none of those people are actually in any medical danger.

Really humorous news report of an "overdose":

On a technical basis, the KY Governor's statement may not be lying. Remember that not every kind of "OD" results in death or necessarily even requires medical attention. There are MANY more ODs than deaths caused by OD. The Wikipedia definition states, "The term drug overdose (or simply overdose or OD) describes the ingestion or application of a drug or other substance in quantities greater than are recommended..."

Which begs the question: Is there a medical-accepted definition for THC-Overdose?

I think the KY governor was trying to say, dishonestly, that people were ending up in the ER or dying yada yada yada.

Technically, if you took pure THC in a massive amount, *maybe* that might kill you, but come on, no one is going to do that unless they want to commit suicide, which is no one I've ever heard of.

He was definitely trying to make people think about people dying. There's no other reason to use the common verbiage in that manner unless he always talks like the Vulcan-Android product of a Data-Spock romantic relationship.

But I'm curious now, if one CAN infact medically overdose on cannabis. I suppose if you're intake was significantly higher than the amount needed to experience the medicinal benefits or more than necessary for a quality euphoria. I mean, shit... we've all seen people who kept smoking weed or taking edibles WAY after they were already stoned out of their gourd.

There have been non-fatal overdoses on Marinol (synthetic THC), a prescription drug used for appetite stimulation and nausea control in AIDS and cancer patients. Despite the possibilty of overdose, Marinol is a Schedule 3 drug whereas marijuana is Schedule 1.

When you legalize, more people will use marijuana, some newbies aren't going to understand dosing, and some of those are going to have a panic attack and go to the ER.

http://www.cnn.com/2016/02/24/health/colorado-pot-er-visits/index.html

Now, none of those people actually NEEDED to go to the ER, in the sense that none were likely in any kind of medical danger, but I think at it's core, the statement "when a state legalizes pot, more people end up in the ER for overdoses" is probably "true" but misleading.

And lest you feel that CNN is too "fake newsy", a different viewpoint from a source that is far from hostile to cannabis:

One night two friends and I baked some marijuana brownies (back in the 70's)

I ate one, and nothing happened.
I ate a second one, and nothing happened.
I ate a third one, and nothing happened.

I went home, and went to bed.

The next morning I woke up stoned out of my mind.
