OK, I've gotta say, regarding Weinstein....

When this story broke, my first question was, "Who??" I mean, I know he's well known, but it took me a minute to realize who he is. He's not exactly a household name, is he? Or am I hopelessly out of touch? It seems that most media coverage of this is playing it up as more both-sides-do-it, as if the right has Trump and the left has Weinstein. They are hardly the same thing! What he did is atrocious and he is being rightfully turned into a pariah, but I don't think the vast majority of Americans even knew who he was prior to this. It's kinda like the fact that no one had ever heard of Benghazi until it became a right-wing mantra. Am I off the mark here?

I had heard of Miramax, but never really knew who Harvey Weinstein was until Ellen ordered the Pizza at the Oscars and made Harvey pay. He looked very grumpy, not at all gracious, and that was the first that I ever heard of Harvey Weinstein. Knowing now who he is and what he is, I find it hilarious that Ellen bossed him around at the Oscars for the whole world to see.

He's given just over $800,000 of his own money plus $1.5 million raised from others. I had no idea who he was before the scandal. I only knew of the Weinstein company because of Michael Moore's documentaries. He is completely dwarfed by the kochs.

There are 60 million + people who voted for Trump and know he is horrible. This will result in very, very creative twisting of logic to place any fault on Hillary Clinton to relieve some of the guilt in voting for Trump. (See, if I had voted for Hillary as you wanted me to do, Harvey Weinstein ...)(what? would have been Secretary of State?)

Weinstein isn't an artist. He's a producer. I can watch movies he produced without his name ruining it for me.

That's not the point.

The point is everyone has been shoveling money into his pockets for decades. The man has had enormous influence over cinema the world over. He's not a nobody. You should know who this guy is, and if you don't you should at least do yourself the courtesy of pretending you do.

I didn't know who he was and I'm utterly clueless about how he and his scandalous behavior is being "Trumped up" by the RW and some of the media (esp. CNN) to attack prominent Democrats like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama for not denouncing him quick enough (as though that is naturally expected of them as current private citizens), as well as to provide some bizarre false equivalency between the GOP's support and enabling of well-known sexual predator and CURRENT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the Democrats' past receipt of campaign contributions from Weinstein, a now disgraced member of the Hollywood establishment whom the Democrats never ran or supported for President (and probably didn't know particularly well enough to know that he's a scumbag and sexual predator). This whole situation is simply mind-blowing. And it's not even the most pressing problem for our country!

He was, however, one of the, if not the, biggest power players in Hollywood. I knew about him because I follow the awards season and movies from pre-production to screen. If he wanted to be a household name, he could be. The media isn't overplaying his reach and importance. They are over doing it w/ the "both sides do it", but Harvey Weinstein had the power to make or break careers and shape the entertainment landscape.

We've move past the days where studio heads are household names, but their power hasn't really diminished.

His name sounded vaguely familiar, but we wouldn't have guessed him in a game of 20 (or even 200) questions. Most of what I learned about what a producer does from the movie Wag the Dog (really! I still don't know why he insisted on a white cat except it would show up better on the drab background).

The big difference between Democratic and rethug sex scandals: the Democrats are shunned and their careers are over while the rethugs get reelected.

He and his brother started out small , championing independent films. Really remarkable. Miramax was named after their parents-combo of their first names.

I feel bad for the brother Bob. Harvey on the other hand has always given me the creeps, can't explain it ( Cosby had a similiar effect on me) . A weird vibe. So not suprised to hear this, just sad for his victims.

The more peopls who hear about this the better. Making this a political left/ right thing leaves me cold. Any news org/media venture that does should be ashamed. Real lives have been affected.
